Financial Crime Operations Manager
About the Role
We are recruiting a Financial Crime Operations Manager to support the Head of Financial Crime Operations in delivering both the day-to-day management and the strategic direction of first-line Financial Crime teams. This role is critical in ensuring effective controls are in place to mitigate risks related to money laundering, terrorist financing, tax evasion, and sanctions breaches across the organisation.
This position combines operational leadership, strategic delivery, and stakeholder engagement, with a strong focus on risk management, performance, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead Financial Crime teams responsible for core financial crime activities, ensuring operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with regulatory expectations and internal risk appetite.
- Support the leadership of Financial Crime Operations with compliance to legal, regulatory obligations, internal policies, and technical standards.
- Oversee key operational processes including:
- Transaction monitoring
- Client screening
- Customer risk assessments
- Payment filtering

- Execute the financial crime strategy, driving process improvements against a compliant and "risk-proportionate" framework.
- Ensure strong day-to-day operational performance, efficient processes, and consistent delivery against agreed service levels.
Workforce Planning & Resource Management
- Collaborate closely with Financial Crime Team Managers and central planning functions to understand, forecast, and resource demand effectively.
- Identify and escalate capacity gaps or emerging demand requirements.
- Define clear training requirements and coordinate budget requirements to ensure all teams have necessary skills.
Leadership & Team Development
- Contribute to building a high-performing leadership team by defining clear roles, responsibilities, and objectives.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
- Support colleague engagement across office-based and remote environments, enhancing communication, knowledge sharing, and development.
Process & Investment Improvement
- Coordinate investment cases for process improvements and technology enhancements aimed at strengthening financial crime controls and improving customer outcomes.
- Work cross-functionally to deliver sustainable change.
- Ensure licensing requirements are clearly understood and incorporated into financial planning.

Performance Management & Customer Engagement
- Oversee performance management of Financial Crime teams, ensuring service levels are achieved while maintaining risk management and providing a positive customer experience.
- Maintain oversight of all customer contact channels, ensuring interactions align with regulatory standards and organisational expectations.
Flexible Working & Commitments
- Flexible working arrangements are available.
- Working hours: 28–35 hours per week.
- Hybrid working supported wherever possible at Nationwide, with designated regional hub location determined during onboarding.
