Financial Crime Operations Manager
About the Role
We are recruiting a Financial Crime Operations Manager to support the Head of Financial Crime Operations in delivering both the day-to-day management and the strategic direction of first-line Financial Crime teams. This role is critical in ensuring that effective controls are in place to mitigate risks related to:
- Money laundering
- Terrorist financing
- Tax evasion
- Sanctions breaches
Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead teams responsible for core financial crime activities, ensuring operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with:
- Regulatory expectations
- Internal risk appetite
- Support the leadership of Financial Crime Operations teams to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory obligations, and internal policies and standards.
Core Operational Processes
- Oversee key processes such as:
- Transaction monitoring
- Client screening
- Customer risk assessments
- Payment filtering
Strategy and Improvement
- Execute the financial crime strategy, embedding process changes and improvements in a compliant and risk-proportionate manner.
- Drive process improvements and technology enhancements, ensuring financial crime controls are strengthened and customer outcomes improved.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver meaningful and sustainable change.

Workforce Management
- Workforce planning and resource management, ensuring demand is forecasted and teams are appropriately resourced.
- Identify and escalate capacity gaps or emerging demand requirements.
- Define training requirements, ensuring teams have necessary skills to perform effectively, including coordinating budget requirements.
Leadership and Team Development
- Contribute to building a high-performing leadership team by:
- Defining clear roles, responsibilities, and objectives
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability
- Supporting colleague engagement in office-based and remote environments
- Facilitating effective communication, knowledge sharing, and development

Performance and Compliance
- Maintain oversight of all customer contact channels, ensuring interactions adhere to regulatory and organisational standards.
- Support the performance management of Financial Crime teams while balancing strong risk management and a positive customer experience.
Financial Planning
- Ensure licensing requirements are clearly understood and incorporated into financial planning.
Additional Considerations
- Office-based at a nearest regional hub, with quarterly collaboration events in Glasgow or Gosforth.
- This is a 6-month secondment opportunity.
- The role has flexible working and hybrid working wherein possible.
Compensation and Flexibility
- Working hours: Between 28 to 35 hours per week
- Nationwide values hybrid working, offering access to home and office working to foster collaboration and connection across locations.
