Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the banks internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the banks operational, financial, and reputational risk.

Accountabilities

  • Knowledge of business areas, products, processes and platforms to be able to assess risk
  • Collaboration with various stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve overall control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
  • Identification and investigation of potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank’s control framework, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations.
  • Development of reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulation, and best practice.
  • Implementation of adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology of assessing controls against the Controls Framework.

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and / or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Role Overview

Join us as a Financial Crime Risk Manager working within our Private Bank and Wealth Management (PBWM) team based in London or Glasgow.

The Financial Crime Governance role supports the delivery of effective governance and oversight of the Financial Crime control environment of PBWM. The role holder will assist the PBWM Governance Lead in maintaining a robust governance framework, assessing the effectiveness of the financial crime control environment through comprehensive reporting and proactive thematic analysis, and identifying opportunities for continuous enhancement of risk management.

The role includes the preparation of senior forum packs and close collaboration with Financial Crime Business Oversight Compliance, BX Shared Services, wider internal & external stakeholders to ensure that any risk and performance issues are effectively understood, documented, reported, and escalated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain appropriate governance and reporting structures that align to Group requirements and provide insightful reporting and oversight on the PBWM Financial Crime Control Environment.
  • Manage Financial Key Risk Indicators reporting and delivery of key MI, including the provision of guidance to operations to ensure consistency across PBWM.
  • Ensure all Risk Events & issues are managed as required by the relevant standards and conduct cross-area reviews to identify any relevant changes.
  • Perform insightful analysis to draw sound conclusions to present to senior stakeholders relating to Financial Crime, using a blend of both qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement through education and awareness based on the outcome of MI analysis.
  • Coordinate and create papers for meetings across PBWM, including running forums on behalf of senior leadership where required.
  • Own and maintain key database sources with the aim of providing regular reporting to senior leadership teams.
  • Support strategic transformation programmes to enhance governance and risk management practices.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key Stakeholders, they must be able to take the initiative and effectively partner and collaborate across the organisation.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Control or Governance role.
  • Experience within Financial Crime at a large-scale organisation.
  • Demonstrable evidence of successful experience of working with others in varying roles in an organisation.
  • Strong analytical experience, with a focus on risk and control environments.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with an ability to multitask effectively and deliver on commitments.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex and detailed topics to a wide variety of audiences.

Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualification

  • Experience of working in a risk/control, assurance or audit environment including working with and interpreting risk, compliance, and operational procedures.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of Financial Crime regulation and applicable rules, policies, standards, and procedures.
  • An understanding of Private Bank and/or Wealth Management businesses is desirable.
