Role Summary

Develop centralised core datasets for Marex’s trading systems, globally across the firm, to the standards of a listed environment for purposes such as:

  • Enterprise level dataset integration
  • Management P&L reporting
  • Balance Sheet Substantiation
  • Statutory Reporting

Build an extensive knowledge of Marex’s business operations, covering booking models, source systems and data flows, to work towards the systematic development of the required data sets.

Build tools that make use of these datasets, for example:

  • Reconciling them to the general ledger
  • Using them to automate parts of Finance’s workload
  • Exposing them to AI tools

Partner with the enterprise data engineers, and data analytics teams working towards the target state solution for sourcing and reporting data for the firm. Become SME for these datasets and tools, document them and ensure smooth adoption by Finance and robust integration into enterprise datasets to describe the firm in granular and timely terms.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal teams to develop core datasets for the various trading systems in use at Marex. Refine these datasets to ensure they meet Finance’s requirements for management P&L reporting, balance sheet substantiation, statutory reporting including ensuring they can be effectively interpreted by AI tools.
  • Build reconciliations and similar to ensure these datasets tie to the general ledger and to assist Finance in using them for the abovementioned tasks. Typically, the build will take place using End User Computing (“EUC”) applications such as Alteryx.
  • Partner with the enterprise data engineers and analytics teams to validate integrated datasets against the general ledger and act as the liaison and representative for Finance into enterprise level dataset creation and maintenance across the wider firm.
  • Work with IT department to manage any parts of the build not being implemented through EUCs.
  • Design and execute UAT testing for all tools built and any subsequent changes.
  • Become subject matter expert on these datasets and associated tools. Document the datasets and tools and provide training to the wider Finance team to ensure effective adoption.
  • Crosstrain others within the Finance Change team on the tools built to ensure coverage.
  • Longer term, work with the IT department to migrate these tools onto IT-owned platforms.

Skills and Experience:

Required

  • Extensive experience working in Finance in a regulated environment, and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this
  • Exceptional problem solving skills
  • Control-focused and detail-oriented mind-set
  • Demonstrable interest in data-manipulation techniques
  • Highly advanced, up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Beneficial

  • Qualified accountant
  • Experience working in Product Control or a related Finance function. Roles involving balance sheet substantiation and/or control design and implementation are especially valuable
  • Understanding of a range of Financial products (e.g. equities, futures, FX, options and other derivatives)
  • Experience with platforms such as Alteryx, Power Query, Power BI (or even Microsoft Access)
  • Knowledge of a programming language (e.g. VBA, Python)
