Role Overview

We're working with an incredible Private Equity backed Events and Retail business in Oxfordshire who are looking to hire a Finance Director to take ownership as the number 1 in finance and report to/support the Commercial CFO/COO.

They are keen to hire and onboard asap with upcoming projects, so ideal candidate would be immediately available or 2-3 weeks notice max.

It's an exciting time to join as along with the BAU ownership of MA and P+L etc they are about to start an ERP implementation project (consultants on-boarded), data migration, and are rebuilding and reviewing their balance sheets, sales to cash rec's, and accounting workflows to drive efficiencies at year end and produce more meaningful insight on a monthly basis. They have a group structure and TO of around £90m - £120m.

This role is initially a fixed term contract for at least 12 - 18 months initially. The ideal candidate would want to be here long term and progress, however, also keen to meet candidates who want a long term interim role with ownership and impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
