The Role
Head4Talent are currently working exclusively with a Leading SME based in Swansea, working closely with the CEO and playing a pivotal role in the company's financial performance, strategic direction and long-term growth.
This is a hands-on, commercially focused role offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function, influence key business decisions and help shape the future of an ambitious business.
As Finance Director, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting and effective financial planning. Working closely with the CEO and wider management team, you will provide financial insight and commercial guidance to support business growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts, statutory financial accounts and other financial reporting requirements.
- Ensure accurate, timely and reliable financial information is available to support business decisions.
- Manage month-end and year-end processes, ensuring appropriate financial controls and procedures are in place.
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax requirements and statutory obligations, working with external accountants and advisers where appropriate.

- Work closely with the CEO to assess business performance, identify opportunities and support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor profitability, margins, costs and key financial performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide commercial analysis and insight to help improve operational efficiency and overall business performance.
- Identify areas of financial risk, cost-saving opportunities and potential improvements to profitability.
- Partner with operational teams to understand performance, challenge assumptions and support commercially sound decisions.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
- Lead the annual budgeting process and develop robust financial forecasts.
- Produce rolling forecasts and long-term financial plans to support the company's growth ambitions.
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, working capital management and liquidity planning.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, investigating variances and recommending corrective action.
- Support financial modelling, investment appraisals and scenario planning to assess future opportunities and risks.
- Ensure the business has appropriate financial visibility to support sustainable growth.
Strategic Planning & Business Growth
- Play a key role in developing and delivering the company's financial strategy alongside the CEO.
- Provide financial insight to support business planning, investment decisions and future expansion.
- Evaluate business opportunities and assess their potential financial impact.
- Help establish financial processes, systems and controls that can scale as the business grows.
- Contribute to wider business strategy, offering challenge, insight and recommendations to support long-term success.

About You
We're looking for a commercially minded finance professional who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with a strategic and forward-thinking approach.
You may already be working as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance or Finance Manager and be ready to take the next step into a Finance Director position. Equally, you may be an experienced finance professional looking for a broader, more influential role within a growing SME.
Experience Required
- A recognised accountancy qualification, such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
- Strong experience across financial and management accounting, budgeting and forecasting.
- A solid understanding of cash flow management, financial controls and business performance.
- The ability to interpret financial data and translate it into meaningful commercial insight.
- Experience managing or developing a finance team.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work closely with the CEO and senior stakeholders.
- A hands-on approach, with the flexibility to move between detailed financial management and wider strategic planning.
- A proactive mindset, with the ambition to help drive business growth and continuous improvement.
