c.£150m turnover business - Office Based
A Finance Director role with the opportunity to shape the next phase of a successful business. We’re working with a successful, growing multi-site, multi-entity distribution business of around £150m turnover that is looking to appoint a Finance Director at an important point in its development.
The Finance function has evolved successfully alongside the growth of the business. The next stage is about building on that success and ensuring Finance continues to develop in line with the scale, complexity and ambitions of the organisation.
The opportunity is to introduce a more structured, corporate and commercially focused approach to Finance, strengthening standards, systems, processes and decision-making. At the same time, you’ll remain closely connected to the operation, working with the wider business to improve performance and create value.
With multiple sites and a significant value and volume of inventory, you’ll need to be comfortable getting close to the operation, understanding the commercial drivers of different sites and partnering with colleagues across operations, sales and procurement.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead the Finance function, providing clear direction whilst continuing to develop and strengthen the existing team
- Partner closely with the MD and operational and commercial leaders across the multi-site business, getting close to branches, operations, sales and procurement
- Bring greater visibility and control across inventory, working capital and business performance
- Develop and embed the appropriate standards, procedures, processes and financial controls for a business of this scale
- Bring a pragmatic, risk-aware approach to decision-making, helping the business understand both the opportunity and the risks involved
- Play a leading role in commercial planning, forecasting and longer-term business strategy
- Provide constructive challenge, insight and analysis to support better commercial decisions
- Work effectively within a matrix reporting structure, influencing stakeholders beyond direct reporting lines
- Lead, mentor and develop the Finance team, creating an environment where people can grow and progress
- Continue to develop the Finance function so that it is fit for purpose and aligned with the next phase of growth
- Maximise the value of the business's ERP infrastructure, improving systems, processes, data and financial visibility
- Support the continued development and optimisation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
