Overview

An established, high-growth Fintech/Tech UK business is seeking a Finance Director to lead its core finance function through the next phase of expansion. This is a key leadership role within a dynamic, fast-paced environment where financial control, operational discipline, and high-quality reporting are critical to continued success.


Role Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Finance Director will take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial reporting while leading a capable finance team. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and a hands-on approach, providing trusted support to senior leadership and helping to shape the future of the finance function.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Financial Control

  • Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team, driving performance and accountability.
  • Maintain a robust financial control environment with well-documented and scalable processes.
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing and succession planning within the function.

Reporting & Operations

  • Own the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Partner with FP&A to deliver clear insight into business performance.
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements.
  • Oversee balance sheet integrity and key accounting processes.
  • Prepare and present high-quality financial analysis and reporting packs for senior stakeholders.

Audit, Compliance & Governance

  • Lead the annual statutory audit process and manage external advisers.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax, payroll, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage company secretarial obligations and reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain strong governance and risk management practices across finance operations.

Commercial & Systems

  • Support the review of commercial agreements and financial implications of new initiatives.
  • Lead key supplier and professional services relationships within finance.
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance systems, processes, automation, and reporting capabilities.
  • Maximise the value of modern finance technology and digital tools.

Strategic Partnership

  • Act as a trusted partner to the CFO and wider leadership team.
  • Provide financial insight to support decision-making and business performance.
  • Build effective relationships across operational and corporate functions.
  • Contribute to strategic projects and organisational growth initiatives.

To Be Suitable

  • ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Significant post-qualified experience leading a finance function.
  • Strong financial control, technical accounting, and statutory reporting expertise.
  • Experience operating in a growing, fast-paced organisation.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and develop high-performing finance professionals.
  • Experience with modern cloud-based ERP systems.
  • Strong commercial judgement and stakeholder management skills.
  • Hands-on, adaptable approach with the ability to balance strategic and operational responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
