Finance Director

MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting a commercially focused Finance Director to join a successful and growing local business that operates across the UK, with a head office in North Colchester. This is far more than a traditional Finance Director role. Working closely with the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team, you’ll use financial and operational data to influence key business decisions, improve performance and help shape the direction of the business.

As a commercially focused Finance Director, you’ll be someone who enjoys getting under the skin of a business, building relationships across teams and challenging the status quo when opportunities for improvement arise. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be encouraged to get out into the business, understand how it works, and use the insight to drive meaningful change.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process across the business.
  • Partner with operational managers and senior stakeholders to improve performance and profitability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive initiatives that improve efficiency.
  • Provide financial insight, analysis and challenge to support strategic decision making.
  • Oversee the production and continual improvement of monthly management accounts.
  • Reduce reporting timelines to ensure leadership teams have access to timely and actionable information.
  • Support commercial decision making through pricing analysis, tender reviews and contract negotiations.
  • Present financial performance and recommendations to the senior leadership team.
  • Lead, develop and mentor the finance team.
  • Build strong relationships across multiple business locations to gain a thorough understanding of operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support relationships with banks and external stakeholders where required.
  • Contribute to business-wide projects, process improvements and long-term strategic planning.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
