Finance Director - Bedfordshire

JSS are delighted to be partnering with a market-leading business in the search for an exceptional Finance Director. This is a pivotal leadership role, offering the opportunity to influence strategy, drive commercial performance and lead a high-performing finance function during an exciting phase of growth and development.

Reporting to the senior leadership team, the Finance Director will take full ownership of the financial agenda, providing strategic insight, robust financial control and commercial leadership across the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving profitability, optimising cash flow and supporting informed decision-making at Board level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the entire finance function, including Financial Control, Treasury, Tax, FP&A, Business Intelligence and Shared Services.
  • Own the budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning processes, ensuring accurate and timely insights to support business performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement across financial and operational processes to support scalability, efficiency and sustainable growth.
  • Maintain a strong financial control environment, overseeing management reporting, statutory accounts and group reporting requirements.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including technical accounting matters, reconciliations and audit preparation.
  • Build and manage key external relationships, including auditors, banking partners, pension trustees and other stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of working capital management, inventory performance and rolling cash flow forecasting.
  • Lead capital investment appraisal and asset performance analysis, ensuring robust business cases and strong return on investment.
  • Oversee all tax matters, including VAT, transfer pricing, foreign exchange exposure and intercompany accounting across the UK and Ireland.
  • Partner closely with the CEO, CFO and Executive Leadership Team, providing strategic financial insight and challenge to support business objectives.
  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance profitability, cash generation and shareholder value.

Profile

We are seeking an accomplished finance leader who combines strong technical expertise with commercial acumen and the ability to influence at executive level. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
  • Significant senior finance leadership experience, ideally within retail, distribution or another operationally intensive environment.
  • Previous experience within a private equity-backed business would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge coupled with a proven ability to drive commercial decision-making.
  • Demonstrable experience leading business transformation, process improvement and performance enhancement initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic and problem-solving capabilities.
