Interim Financial Modeller
Salary: £600/day
Location: London
An esteemed global insurance services provider is seeking an Interim Financial Modeller to join their Group Finance team in London. This contract role offers a unique opportunity to design and build robust, well-documented Excel-based sub consolidation models that will shape the future of financial reporting within a large international group. With a focus on delivering clear, concise outputs and supporting internal stakeholders, you will play a pivotal part in enhancing transparency and auditability across multiple business units.
What you'll do:
- As an Interim Financial Modeller, you will be instrumental in shaping the financial reporting landscape by developing scalable Excel-based models that accommodate complex consolidations across numerous business units.
- Design and build Excel-based sub consolidation frameworks capable of handling over 200 trial balances and producing multiple business unit groupings driven by legal entity structure.
- Define model architecture to ensure formulas and structure remain simple yet provide appropriate controls, transparency, and auditability for all users.
- Implement adjustment layers within each sub consolidation to support manual consolidation adjustments such as reclasses, alignment adjustments, and eliminations at the consolidation level.
- Develop scalable approaches that allow for at least five initial sub consolidations with potential extension to ten or more views without requiring major redesigns.
- Enable the possibility of running separate 'what if' scenario views of the Group to support strategic decision-making processes.
- Build robust reconciliation routines so that the sum of sub consolidations plus manual adjustments aligns perfectly with the main Group consolidation outputs.
- Produce concise output packs including Profit Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow by business view suitable for internal stakeholders and transaction workstreams at consolidated, sub consolidated, and legal entity levels.
- Create clear documentation detailing model design, usage instructions, and maintenance guidelines to ensure sustainability beyond the contract period.
- Engage closely with Group Consolidations & Reporting team members as well as other finance stakeholders to confirm reporting definitions and guarantee outputs are fit for purpose.
- Provide handover training sessions and transition materials so the internal team can confidently maintain the model after your assignment concludes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
