Financial Operations Officer (Accounts Payable)
Contract type: Permanent, 34.5 hours (9am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-4:30pm Friday)
Location: Hybrid between home and our London office, with the requirement to come into the office 1 day per week
Salary Range: £30,000 - £33,000

About the role
We're looking for a detail-focused Financial Operations Officer to join our Finance Operations team. You'll help make sure Macmillan's income and expenditure are processed accurately and on time, carrying out reconciliations, processing payments and journals, resolving queries, and maintaining strong financial controls. Working with colleagues across the organisation, you'll play an important role in ensuring our financial information is accurate while helping us continuously improve the service we provide.
Key responsibilities
- Perform reconciliations between third-party data, bank accounts and the financial ledger to maintain accurate financial records.
- Process journals and accounting adjustments to ensure income and costs are recorded correctly.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and support month-end activities.
- Process income received through bank accounts, payment gateways and other third-party sources.
- Process payments to colleagues and third parties while ensuring appropriate controls are followed.
- Investigate and resolve processing issues, discrepancies and anomalies.
- Manage finance system data and complete tasks received through team workflows.
- Respond to queries through shared mailboxes, telephone and other communication channels.
- Build effective relationships with internal teams and external partners to support finance processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain process documentation.

About you
The skills and experience we are looking for in the role are:
- Experience in a Finance Assistant, Finance Operations, Accounts Payable or similar role.
- Experience managing high volumes of emails and queries.
- Good knowledge of Accounts Payable processes.
- Strong reconciliation skills and experience working with financial data.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- A proactive approach to resolving problems and improving processes.
