I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Alongside core FP&A responsibilities, you will:
- Develop deeper analysis of publishing and content performance
- Assess wider market and industry trends
- Help senior stakeholders understand what is driving business performance
- Support three-to-five-year strategic planning
- Model new business opportunities and commercial ventures
- Produce high-quality analysis and presentations for senior leadership and Board-level audiences
The business is continuing to invest in its finance systems and data capabilities, so there will also be an opportunity to work with Power BI, financial reporting tools, and AI, helping develop more sophisticated reporting, research, and decision-support capabilities.

About You
We are looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with ideally 3+ years' PQE and a strong combination of financial modelling, FP&A, and commercial analysis experience.
You will need to be highly analytical but equally comfortable working with non-finance stakeholders. This role would suit someone who enjoys understanding the story behind the numbers and translating complex financial and commercial information into clear recommendations.
Strong Excel skills are essential, while experience with Power BI or similar data and reporting tools would be advantageous.
