Job Title: Financial Risk & Audit Manager

Location: Manchester City Centre
Salary: Competitive, plus benefits
Reports to: Global Finance Director

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Risk & Audit Manager to join our Finance team. As a Financial Risk & Audit Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the firm's financial integrity and ensuring absolute compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will contribute to strategic decision-making, helping to drive performance and identify opportunities for improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong financial audit background looking to take the next step in their career.

This is a high-profile role involving interaction across the business at all levels with both financial and non-financial people. Attention to detail, flexibility, and a can-do attitude are prerequisites for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with external auditors, coordinating audit requests and ensuring information is accurate, complete, and provided within agreed timelines.
  • Support the GFD with financial audit planning, audit preparation, financial risk reviews, and compliance reporting.
  • Review financial processes, controls, and ledgers to identify risk areas, control gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure financial records, reconciliations, ledgers, and supporting documentation are accurate, well maintained, and audit-ready.
  • Track audit findings, actions, and recommendations, ensuring follow-up is completed and improvements are embedded.
  • Support the development and maintenance of strong financial controls across the finance function.
  • Identify and escalate areas of financial risk, non-compliance, or process weakness.
  • Manage, support, and develop members of the finance team, ensuring work is delivered accurately and to agreed deadlines.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure finance policies, audit requirements, and risk controls are understood and followed.
  • Support continuous improvement across finance systems, reporting, processes, and ways of working.
  • Maintain clear evidence, documentation, and reporting to support internal review and external audit requirements.
  • Ensure financial compliance standards are maintained in line with the expectations of a regulated law firm environment.

The Person

Skills and Experience

  • Strong experience in audit, finance risk, financial compliance, finance controls, or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of ledgers, reconciliations, audit trails, financial records, and control processes.
  • Experience working with external auditors and coordinating audit requirements.
  • Experience identifying financial risks, control weaknesses, and process improvements.
  • Previous experience managing, supervising, or mentoring a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence reviewing financial information.
  • Able to work confidently with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in a law firm, professional services, or regulated environment would be highly beneficial.
  • Fully qualified accountant or demonstrably Qualified by Experience.
