Building a sustainable tomorrow

BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Financial Services Manager – General Ledger. This position can be based across our Farnborough, Hemel Hempstead, or Kildare offices, with office attendance required a minimum of three days each week and frequent travel between locations.

This role is the trusted advisor to the Director of Financial Services on financial governance and accounting matters and a real change agent to challenge existing processes, drive continuous improvement and lead on change to future proof Financial Services.

As a senior member of the Financial Services (FS) team, you will lead the back-office General Ledger function across the UK&I Division, responsible for the integrity of all ledgers across the Divisions ERP Platform, ensuring robust financial governance, balance sheet control, accurate timely reporting and an efficient and effective month end close process.

Making Possible

  • Supporting an evolving Financial Services function for the UK&I Division, by challenging the status quo, focusing on leading change, and ensuring and supporting the introduction of a way of working where continuous improvement holds a central role across all General Ledger activities.
  • Own and maintain the integrity of the UK&I Division balance sheet across all operating companies, including owning the Blackline Governance, reconciliation controls and balance sheet certification processes and maximising its functionality to deliver measurable efficiency and control benefits.
  • Lead and coach a team to ensure all financial transactions relating to all ledgers across the division are processed correctly, completely and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for optimal and motivated staffing, both qualitatively and quantitatively, ensuring the best use of existing resources including workforce planning, cross-skilling, smarter ways of working and deploying resources effectively across Financial Services.
  • Coordinate, plan and take responsibility for the quality and efficiency of the General Ledger Function for the Division, ensuring month-end, quarter-end and year-end processes are delivered to time and quality to ensure stakeholder requirements are met for both internal and external stakeholders, and to provide insightful management information to enable business decisions to be made on.
  • Ensure a high level of predictability and quality of the figures that the team reports, where the same assumptions and processes are used across Segments to achieve as much standardisation and consistency as possible, whilst ensuring compliance with all financial accounting standards and controls.
  • Align with internal and external stakeholders (business colleagues, clients and suppliers) in a timely manner on financial transactions to enable a high quality of information processing and to support business processes, including managing the Financial Services responses for internal and external audit activity.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external business stakeholders to achieve quality insights into needs and priorities and to create a platform for change.
  • Recognise and identify process bottlenecks and work with the team to ensure these are ratified. Sharing End to End insights with stakeholders based on observations to make sure that root causes of issues are resolved and not just symptoms (process driven work).
  • Drive improvements in leveraging AI and analytics to improve efficiency, effectiveness of the team as well as reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Deliver results and trends reporting to ensure senior management has insight into key information and developments therein. Review consolidated figures. Ensure correct and timely internal and external reporting.
  • Acts, with the team, as Centre of Excellence for processes and systems.
  • Strive for standardisation and a high quality of working. Lead and/or participate in working groups to improve End to End processes and systems.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
