Job Summary

Jobs at the Treasury are fast-paced, fun, and can offer unparalleled perspective – not least the opportunity to advise Ministers on the decisions which directly determine the UK’s prosperity. Deep in our DNA is a commitment to empowering our people: maximising individual and collective impact, with interesting work no matter your role or seniority.

Day-to-day you could be supporting Ministers to decide the right level of a specific tax or line of government spending; helping maintain the stability of financial markets; analysing the long-term trends impacting the future of the economy; or enabling this work as part of our vital corporate functions.

We are a high-performing department and proud to have outstanding staff from a wide range of backgrounds. We are also a friendly, inclusive, and sociable workplace that prides itself on fostering great team spirit. Our two largest offices are 1 Horse Guards Road in London, opposite St James’ Park, and the Darlington Economic Campus, which also contains eight other departments. We work seamlessly across all our sites, including Norwich, Birmingham, and Leeds, as one Treasury.

We are both a 1,000-year-old institution and dynamic, forward-looking economics and finance ministry, with a strong direction set by our organisational strategy, the Future Treasury Vision. The 21st century offers huge opportunities and poses new challenges for the UK. Working at the Treasury is your chance to help the country chart the right course.

Job Description

These positions are exciting and varied roles suitable either for recent graduates, or for experienced candidates seeking a new challenge. You will work with a team of analysts and policy officials as we explore the biggest challenges facing the UK financial system.

Through original analysis and engagement with key partners, you will build the Treasury’s expertise, influence policy development, and support the Treasury’s response to global events.

The first position will focus on risks relating to non-bank financial institutions (NBFI), which includes insurance companies, pension funds, hedge funds, and private market asset managers, among others. The work involves assessing risks developing in NBFIs and related markets, and how these developments impact UK financial stability and the financial sector’s ability to support economic growth. This work ensures that emerging policy is grounded in robust analysis and supports a stable and dynamic financial system. To help deliver this work, you will draw on extensive data sources such as Bloomberg and Preqin, and will utilise our relationships across Treasury, with the wider regulatory authorities (the Bank of England and Financial Conduct Authority) and with industry.

The second position will focus on global and cross-cutting risks, including risks related to climate change, the growing use of AI, geopolitical developments, and other topical trends. The post holder will support the team’s priority work to enhance financial system preparedness for geopolitical risks, including by scoping relevant projects and building relationships across Government, and with the Bank of England.

Both positions sit within Treasury’s Financial Stability Group. We are a friendly, diverse, and inclusive group, supporting different working patterns, and with colleagues working from different locations. The Group’s unique offering includes the Women in Financial Stability Network to provide a space for women to connect and to support their career development. All colleagues are able to benefit from Treasury’s generous annual leave, parental leave packages, and flexible and hybrid working options (where business needs allow).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
