Role Summary
This post is based within the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust (UHSx) across approx. 4 sites. This role will advise on and work to targets for growth of the Workplace Savings Scheme within UHSx focusing on membership growth and offering money management as well as offering pensions support to UHSx staff. This role would suit someone with at least 2 years debt advice experience.
Purpose of Post
To build financial resilience of UHSx staff by providing help with money management and financial wellbeing guidance, support with pensions (particularly the NHS Pension), signposting to further help where needed and increasing use of WCB’s workplace savings scheme by signing up staff to save and repay loans through it. Delivering excellent customer service at all times via all channels (email, online, phone & face to face) whilst adhering to regulatory/legislation requirements such as UK GDPR, treating customers fairly & anti-money laundering.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Workplace Savings Scheme
- Build membership in UHSx by signing up new members, helping UHSx staff to set up regular savings, and apply for loans
- Run help points across the four UHSx sites – Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton), Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath), Worthing Hospital, and St Richard’s Hospital (Chichester). Sites may be subject to change
- Help staff with money management and budgeting guidance, and signposting to further services where needed.
- Help staff complete applications for the Crisis fund and build awareness of the support available. Then signpost staff that have issues accessing the vouchers when released.
- Create and present Cost of Living presentations for Staff online and face to face
- Help staff with Pension queries, form completion and understanding their statements.
- Create and present Pension presentations for staff, on Pensions in general, the State pension, and the NHS scheme, including retirement options.
- Work with the education team to look at the current Pension presentations available on Iris (UHSussex learning platform) and work with them to make them more user friendly.
- Attend staff events within UHSx to promote financial wellbeing, the workplace savings scheme and the service in the Trust.
- Liaise with UHSx Health and Wellbeing Team, hospital directors and heads of divisions to identify opportunities to promote the service to staff.
- Work with the WCB Business Development Team to create tailored promotional material for UHSx
- Create and run Financial Education presentations for overseas nurses, focusing on the payslip, UK tax, NI and how to budget.
- Working with the staff networks across UHSx to promote the support offered and WCB services.
- Attending DWP/CAB and NHS training where possible to maintain up to date knowledge of benefits and changes to them.
- To track number of contacts with staff and pro-actively seek evaluation and staff feedback of the service, adapting to need as required.
- To produce monthly evaluation reports for UHSx, showing trends and service usage data.

General
- Working with and supporting the Business Development Team as needed.
- The post holder will undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required and will be expected to work effectively with others in order to make a positive contribution to the work of the organisation.
- The post holder will be expected to keep under review his/her own training needs and attend training or other developmental activities from time to time as appropriate.

Person Specification
Education:
- 5 GCSE’s including English and Mathematics, relevant subjects, or equivalent
Work Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience of debt or financial advice. Experience of building and utilising networks
Knowledge & Skills:
- An understanding of pensions in general, able to discuss the state pension, and a knowledge of the NHS pension and/or defined benefit pension schemes
- An understanding of money management, budgeting and financial wellbeing
- Excellent communication skills including building relationships, and dealing with distressed or potentially vulnerable people.
- Literacy to the level to be able to deal with correspondence effectively & efficiently.
- Competent in the use of computer software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage own workload.
- Accuracy and ability to check your own work.

- Excellent communication skills for working with individuals and groups.
- Able to demonstrate successful selling and presentation skills
- A self-starter and able to work mostly on your own
