We are a stable, well-managed charity, supported by an external accountant. To complement our existing Board, we’re looking for a financially literate trustee – not to manage our finances or get involved in the day-to-day, but to bring financial insight to our strategic decision-making.
What difference will you make?
As a financially minded trustee, you’ll play an important role in helping Flamingo Chicks remain a strong, sustainable and ambitious organisation, so that we can continue to create inclusive opportunities for disabled children and their families.
This role matters because strong financial insight gives us the freedom to be ambitious. By helping Flamingo Chicks make confident, sustainable decisions, you will be helping create the conditions for us to reach more disabled children and families, get more children active, champion inclusion and tackle social isolation.
- You’ll help us make sure that our ambitions are underpinned by sound financial thinking. By helping the Board understand our financial position, risks and opportunities, you’ll support trustees to make informed, sustainable decisions about where we focus our resources and how we grow our impact.
- Your experience and judgement will also provide valuable challenge and reassurance. You’ll be able to ask the questions that help us test our thinking, identify potential financial risks and make sure we are making the best possible use of the resources entrusted to us. At the same time, you’ll help the wider Board feel confident in navigating financial information and considering the longer-term implications of strategic decisions.
- Most importantly, your contribution will help protect and strengthen the organisation behind the work. Financial resilience gives us the confidence to plan for the future, respond to changing circumstances and create opportunities that could make an even greater difference to the children and families we support.
As a trustee, you’ll therefore have the opportunity to influence the direction and sustainability of Flamingo Chicks, rather than simply its finances. You’ll be part of a collaborative Board helping to shape our priorities, strengthen our organisation and ensure we can continue delivering meaningful change.

What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference and who can bring fresh thinking, creative ideas and a different perspective to our Board.
- Financial experience, particularly in areas such as financial planning, investment, risk or working with small organisations, would be especially helpful for this role, but we’re equally interested in the wider skills, knowledge and life experience you can bring.
- Previous experience as a trustee is not essential; we’ll support you to understand the role and you’ll be part of a collaborative, co-supportive Board where you can learn and grow.

What will you be doing?
Are you passionate, energetic, and ready to make a difference? At Flamingo Chicks we are on the lookout for dynamic individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is your chance to shape the future and bring fresh perspectives to our mission of getting disabled children more active, championing inclusion and tackling social isolation. Previous experience of Trusteeship is not necessary- your passion, life experience, lived experience and ideas are what we are looking for!
What would I do?
- Strategize Help steer the charity’s direction and decision-making.
- Advocate Be a voice for the people in our community.
- Engage Participate in board meetings, events, and sub-committees.
- Inspire Support initiatives that inspire others and help motivate and empower the Flamingo Chicks’ Operations Team to deliver exceptional work.
Your particular contribution will be about bringing financial insight, perspective and confidence to the Board.

We are looking for a new trustee to join our collaborative and committed Board at an exciting point in Flamingo Chicks’ development. Our trustees bring a broad range of professional expertise, lived experience and perspectives, and work together to provide challenge, support and strategic direction. We are particularly keen to strengthen the Board’s financial understanding and confidence.
The new trustee will bring a financial lens to our strategic decision-making, helping us make sure that our ambitions are supported by sound financial thinking and that we continue to build a sustainable organisation for the future.
As we continue to grow our impact, the Board needs to balance ambition with sustainability. We have exciting opportunities ahead and want to ensure that we have the financial resilience and insight to make the right choices about where we invest our time and resources. The new trustee will help us look at the bigger picture and consider not just what we want to achieve, but how we can achieve it sustainably. We need someone who can help the Board understand the financial information presented to it, explore the implications of strategic decisions, identify potential risks and opportunities, and provide constructive challenge and reassurance.
You will contribute to four Board meetings each year, held online via Zoom, with the option of joining our annual Development Day in Bristol. There may also be opportunities to support specific projects or liaise with members of the Operations Team where your financial expertise would add particular value. The role is expected to take around 20 hours per year, with additional involvement entirely dependent on your interests and availability.
Most importantly, we want this trustee to be an active and curious member of the Flock. You’ll be joining a supportive Board where trustees share knowledge, challenge each other constructively and are encouraged to bring new ideas. You’ll have a genuine opportunity to influence the organisation’s direction and help shape what comes next.
