Fire Alarm Design Estimator

Location: Office Location Southend-on-Sea, Hybrid, Essex / Kent / London

Job Type: Full-Time
Reports to: Minor Projects Manager

About the Role

Are you a Fire Alarm Design Estimator looking for your next opportunity? We’re looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Fire Alarm Design Estimator to join the PFS Minor Projects team. This is a varied role where you’ll play an important part in taking projects from the initial tender stage through to successful handover.

You’ll combine your technical knowledge of fire detection and alarm systems with your estimating and design experience to develop practical, compliant and cost-effective solutions for our customers.

From reviewing specifications and producing designs, to preparing accurate quotations and supporting our project teams, you’ll be involved throughout the project journey.

A good understanding of BS 5839 Parts 1, 6, 8 and 9, alongside commercial estimating experience, is essential for the role.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your role will include:

  • Reviewing tender drawings, specifications and project documentation.
  • Preparing detailed and accurate quotations for fire alarm installations, upgrades and maintenance projects.
  • Producing design drawings, schematics, cause and effect matrices and equipment schedules.
  • Ensuring designs comply with BS 5839, BS 9999, Building Regulations and client-specific requirements.
  • Working closely with consultants, clients, architects and contractors to develop compliant and practical solutions.
  • Supporting commissioning and project teams with technical design queries.
  • Attending pre-tender and site survey meetings where required.
  • Providing support to Project Managers throughout project delivery.
  • Maintaining accurate estimating and design records.
  • Keeping up to date with industry standards, technologies and best practices.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines technical knowledge with a practical, customer-focused approach.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in fire alarm system design and estimating, with FIA, Zuess, Level 3 or equivalent qualification in fire alarm design to BS 5839.
  • Ability to confidently interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Good understanding of commercial estimating principles.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and organisational abilities.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using estimating software and CRM systems.
  • Knowledge of Gent, Notifier, Siemens, Advanced, C-Tec, Hochiki, Morley, Apollo or similar fire alarm systems.
