Fire Compartmentation & Fire Door Surveyor

Job Type: Permanent
Start date: ASAP
Salary Range: £40-50,000 + Car Allowance
Location: East Midlands
Working Arrangements: Field-based
Hours of work: Full-time

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Fire Compartmentation & Fire Door Surveyor to join the surveying division. You will be responsible for undertaking detailed compartmentation and fire door surveys and inspections across a range of building types and sectors.

Working closely with clients, site representatives, colleagues and wider passive fire protection teams, you will identify deficiencies, defects and areas of non-compliance, accurately record survey findings and produce comprehensive, professional reports with clear recommendations for remedial action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake detailed compartmentation and fire door surveys and inspections across a range of building types and sectors.
  • Identify deficiencies, defects and areas of non-compliance relating to passive fire protection measures.
  • Inspect compartment walls, floors, service penetrations, fire stopping and associated passive fire protection measures.
  • Assess fire doors and associated components, including frames, ironmongery, seals, glazing and general condition.
  • Record survey findings accurately, clearly and consistently.
  • Produce comprehensive, professional and high-quality survey reports for clients.
  • Provide clear descriptions of identified defects and recommended remedial actions.
  • Take and accurately record photographs and supporting evidence during surveys.
  • Ensure survey information is recorded in accordance with company procedures and client requirements.
  • Use appropriate surveying and reporting software, including OneTrace, where applicable.
  • Manage allocated surveys and ensure reports are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, site representatives and other stakeholders during survey activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business, including operational and passive fire protection teams.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of relevant legislation, guidance, standards and industry best practice relating to fire compartmentation and fire doors.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken safely and in accordance with company health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with the continued development and improvement of the company's surveying systems, processes and reporting standards.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times when attending client sites.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate must have:

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience of undertaking compartmentation and/or fire door surveys.
  • Strong knowledge of passive fire protection principles and the ability to identify defects, deficiencies and areas of non-compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to accurately record survey findings and supporting evidence.
  • The ability to produce clear, accurate and professional technical survey reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience of using OneTrace surveying and reporting software.
  • Relevant qualifications, including IFE Level 2/3 and/or the FDIS Diploma in Fire Doors.
  • Knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation, standards, guidance and industry best practice.
  • Experience of surveying a variety of property types, including residential, commercial, healthcare, education and public sector buildings.
  • Experience working within passive fire protection, fire safety or building compliance.
  • Knowledge of fire stopping, compartmentation and fire door inspection requirements.
  • Experience producing technical survey reports and remedial recommendations.
  • Experience working with clients and other stakeholders within occupied and operational buildings.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and contributing to the ongoing development of the surveying division.
