Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) Fire Control Operator

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) are welcoming applications for the post of Fire Control Operator for two temporary positions.

We are currently recruiting for two temporary, fixed-term opportunities, expected to run until April 2028. There is potential for one of these opportunities to become permanent in the future, subject to succession planning, organisational requirements and any changes within the team.

The post will require successful candidate(s) to work within a small team; you will need to be able to think fast and be confident within the busy working environment of Fire Control. Along with providing advice and support to members of the community, to aid survival of an emergency event.

We’re looking for level-headed, enthusiastic and proactive individuals, preferably with experience of working in a call-taking environment with the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to tight deadlines.

As a control room operator, you will answer 999 calls in a calm and professional manner, gather critical information, and make sure the correct fire and rescue appliance and crews get to the right place with the right equipment. During on-going incidents, you will take receipt of fire/incident ground messages, and action requests to support crews with their operational requirements as the incident works through to its conclusion.

You will work closely with your team members, fire crews, other emergency services and supporting agencies collating and disseminating information whilst working within a highly pressurised control environment. This is vital role where every decision and action matters, your work will help save lives, and whilst this can be a very challenging role, it is also an immensely rewarding position.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
