The organization is known for its deep understanding of regulatory authorities and standards such as British Standards (BS), Health Technical Memorandums (HTM), and ISO, supported by site-specific protocols aligned with current regulations. Services range from verification of critical ventilation systems and fire damper testing to fire compartmentation surveys, water treatment, and cleanroom verification. RJ Urmson Group values skilled, committed team members, carefully recruited from mechanical, electrical, service, and commissioning disciplines.
Role Description
The Fire Damper Engineer role is a full-time remote position responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire dampers and associated life safety systems across a range of building types. Day-to-day tasks include planning and carrying out fire damper surveys, documenting findings, producing clear reports, and recommending remedial actions in line with relevant standards and client requirements. The role involves collaborating with project managers, site contacts, and other engineers to coordinate access, ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, and support fire compartmentation integrity. The Fire Damper Engineer will interpret drawings and specifications, use appropriate testing equipment, and maintain accurate records within company systems. The position may require periodic travel to client sites, adherence to health and safety procedures, and proactive communication to resolve technical issues and improve system performance.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated skills in Fire Protection Engineering and Fire Suppression Systems relevant to fire damper design, operation, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of Life Safety and Fire Safety principles, including fire compartmentation and emergency response considerations.
- Experience in Safety Engineering practices, risk assessment, and compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Familiarity with HVAC and ventilation systems, including ductwork layouts, dampers, and related mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory guidance documents (e.g., BS, HTM, ISO).
- Strong report-writing skills, attention to detail, and capability to use digital tools for data capture and documentation.
- Comfort working remotely with good self-organization, time management, and clear communication with dispersed teams and clients.
- Relevant technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, building services, or fire engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Full driving license and willingness to travel to client sites as required.
- Previous experience in fire dampers.
