Their engineers support diverse ventilation and water systems, from large cleanrooms and ultra-clean ventilation systems to fume extraction cupboards and conventional hot/chilled water systems. Services include testing and maintenance of LEV systems, fume cupboards, safety cabinets, laminar flow and isolators, HEPA filters, ductwork and kitchen extract cleaning, microbiological air sampling, and critical ventilation verification in line with HTM 03-01. RJ Urmson is recognized for detailed performance assessments, rebalancing works, and cleanroom testing to ISO 14644, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient environments for clients.

Role Description
The Fire Damper Engineer will be responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire and smoke dampers within HVAC and ventilation systems in line with relevant UK regulations, standards, and client protocols. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out scheduled site visits, performing functional tests and visual inspections, documenting findings, completing compliance reports, and recommending remedial actions to ensure life safety systems operate effectively. The role involves working closely with cleanroom validation and HVAC verification teams, coordinating with site managers and other engineers, and supporting associated ductwork inspections, minor adjustments, and component replacements as required. The Fire Damper Engineer will also contribute to risk assessments, method statements, and continuous improvements in safety and quality procedures.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in the London Area, United Kingdom, requiring regular travel to client premises within the region.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with fire damper inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair within HVAC and ventilation systems, ideally in healthcare, cleanroom, or commercial environments.
- Strong understanding of relevant UK fire safety and building regulations, applicable British Standards, and good practice guidance related to fire and smoke control in ducted systems.
- Practical skills in mechanical and electrical fault-finding on ventilation components, including dampers, actuators, fans, and associated control equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, ventilation schematics, and building plans to locate and access fire dampers safely and efficiently.
- Competence in preparing clear inspection reports, compliance documentation, and maintenance records using digital tools and standard office software.
