What You Will Do

As a Fire Detection Design Engineer within our Fire & Security business, you will be responsible for the design and development of compliant fire detection and life safety solutions across a range of customer projects. Working closely with sales, operations and project delivery teams, you will produce high-quality designs, technical documentation and system layouts that meet customer requirements and industry standards. This is a hybrid role with occasional travel for site surveys, design reviews and customer meetings.

How You Will Do It

  • Design fire detection and life safety systems in accordance with BS5839-1 and relevant industry standards
  • Produce system layouts, schematics, calculations and technical documentation
  • Review customer specifications, drawings and tender requirements
  • Support the preparation of technical submissions and project quotations
  • Conduct site surveys and gather design information where required
  • Liaise with customers, consultants, project managers and installation teams throughout the design process
  • Ensure designs are technically compliant, commercially viable and aligned with project requirements
  • Use AutoCAD and related design software to create accurate design packages
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical support during project delivery
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Experience designing fire detection systems within the fire and security industry
  • Good knowledge of BS5839-1 and relevant fire detection regulations and standards
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and customer requirements
  • Experience producing design documentation and technical calculations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • Continuous UK residency for the past 5 years (vetting requirement)

Beneficial

  • FIA Fire Detection Design qualification or equivalent
  • Experience using AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of integrated security systems, including CCTV and Access Control
  • Site survey and customer-facing experience
  • Experience working on large or multi-site commercial projects
  • Exposure to Revit, Navisworks or other 3D design software
