Due to continued growth, AFC Fire is looking to recruit an experienced Fire Engineer to join our expanding fire safety consultancy team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and technically capable Fire Engineer who is looking to take ownership of a varied portfolio of projects across residential, commercial, healthcare, education and other complex premises throughout the UK.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality fire engineering and fire safety consultancy services, working both independently and alongside our existing fire safety team.
The role will include:
- Producing Retrospective Fire Safety Strategies for existing buildings.
- Producing and reviewing Fire Safety Strategies for new developments, alterations and refurbishment projects.
- Undertaking detailed assessments of means of escape, travel distances, occupancy capacities and escape widths.
- Reviewing compartmentation, fire-resisting construction and fire door provisions.
- Reviewing and specifying appropriate fire detection and alarm systems.
- Assessing fire service access and facilities, including firefighting shafts, lifts and dry/wet riser provisions.
- Reviewing smoke control and ventilation arrangements.
- Reviewing architectural drawings and providing fire safety mark-ups and technical comments.
- Providing practical solutions where existing buildings do not fully align with current prescriptive guidance.
- Liaising with clients, architects, contractors, Building Control and other members of the design team.
- Undertaking site inspections and surveys throughout the UK.
- Preparing clear, technically robust reports and recommendations.

About You
We are looking for somebody with strong technical knowledge of UK fire safety and building regulations who can confidently manage their own projects.
You should have good working knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and guidance, including:
- Approved Document B
- BS 9991
- BS 9999
- BS 5839
- Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- Relevant British Standards and fire engineering guidance
You should be comfortable assessing existing buildings where information may be limited and be able to make proportionate, evidence-based recommendations.
Experience producing Fire Safety Strategies is essential.
A relevant fire engineering qualification and membership of an appropriate professional body such as the IFE, IFSM or equivalent would be advantageous.

You'll be joining a growing fire safety consultancy with a varied UK-wide client base and the opportunity to work on projects ranging from relatively straightforward existing buildings through to complex retrospective fire engineering assessments.
AFC Fire is BAFE SP205 certified and ISO 9001 accredited, with a strong focus on technical quality, proportionate advice and professional development.
There will also be opportunities for the successful candidate to play an important role in the continued development of our Fire Engineering service as the business grows.
