Company Description
Northfire is a fire safety and training provider supporting businesses of all sizes with contract and ad hoc services. The company supplies and services fire extinguishers and fire blankets, and provides fire safety and health & safety signage to help organizations maintain safe premises. Northfire also delivers staff fire safety training, fire risk assessments, PAT testing, and fire alarm servicing and repairs, as well as emergency lighting testing and installations. Fire extinguishers are serviced in accordance with B.S5306 part 3:2009, and all fire equipment stocked is BS approved and CE Kite Marked, reflecting a strong commitment to compliance and quality.
Role Description
This is a part-time, on-site role based in Hexham for a Fire Extinguisher Servicing Engineer. The role involves visiting client premises to inspect, service, and maintain fire extinguishers and related fire safety equipment in line with B.S5306 part 3:2009 and company procedures. The engineer will liaise with customers on-site, provide basic guidance on safe use and placement of extinguishers, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards. The role may also support wider fire safety services such as signage checks and assisting with training or risk assessment activities when required.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in fire extinguisher installation, servicing, maintenance, and inspection, preferably within commercial or industrial environments.
- Working knowledge of B.S5306 part 3:2009 and other relevant fire safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Basic mechanical and technical skills for handling, testing, and repairing fire extinguishers and associated equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, accurate record-keeping, and ability to follow structured procedures and compliance requirements.
- Good communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with clients and explain findings and recommendations clearly.
- Ability to work independently on-site, manage time effectively, and travel to customer locations in and around Hexham as needed.
- Relevant fire safety or engineering certification, and a valid driving license, are highly beneficial.
- Commitment to health and safety, including safe manual handling and use of tools and testing equipment.
