Sr Mechanical Engineer

Design Hire is seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineer who will support projects where fire and life safety are essential to building performance, occupant protection, and regulatory compliance. This opportunity combines advanced technical work with project leadership and client-focused engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Fire Protection Engineering activities for new construction, renovation, and other building projects, developing practical solutions based on project requirements.
  • Perform Fire Sprinkler Design, Fire Alarm Design, Fire Code Analysis, and Egress Analysis while coordinating requirements with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines.
  • Develop Fire Protection Hydraulic Calculations and support Fire & Smoke Modeling / CONTAM activities to evaluate building fire and life-safety conditions.
  • Prepare and review technical deliverables, engineering documentation, and project materials while supporting design coordination and quality throughout project development.
  • Contribute to A/E Professional Services through client coordination, Proposal Writing, project planning, and technical support for business development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Science required.
  • New York Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • Progressive experience in Fire Protection Engineering, building systems design, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of fire and life-safety principles, applicable building codes, and engineering standards.
  • Experience with complex multidisciplinary building projects and coordination with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements, evaluate design alternatives, and communicate engineering recommendations effectively.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills with the ability to prepare clear reports and client-facing materials.
