We are seeking an experienced and proactive Fire Safety Adviser to join our Health and Safety team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.

This is a key role responsible for delivering operational fire safety advisory services across the University, supporting compliance with fire safety legislation and promoting a positive fire safety culture. Working closely with colleagues across Estates and Facilities Management, Student Operations and Support, and other departments, you will provide expert guidance on fire safety matters, support the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and promote best practice across the university community.

In This Role, You Will

  • Oversee a complex programme of fire risk assessments, inspections and audits, monitor compliance, investigate incidents, and ensure timely follow-up of actions.
  • Manage and analyse fire safety data, prepare reports and present findings to senior managers and governance committees.
  • Contribute to the delivery of fire safety training and support responses to changes in legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support, helping to ensure the effective delivery of fire safety services across the University. You will also deputise for the Fire Safety Manager when required, acting as a key point of contact for fire safety matters.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will

  • Have substantial experience of delivering fire safety and emergency planning activities within a complex organisation, together with a strong understanding of fire safety legislation and best practice.
  • Be experienced in undertaking audits, inspections and fire risk assessments, developing and delivering training, analysing data, and communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and the ability to influence positive behaviours are essential.
  • Have a recognised fire safety qualification, such as the IFE Level 4 Certificate in Fire Science and Fire Safety, or equivalent relevant experience.
