Job title: Fire Safety Assessor
Salary: £60,000-£80,000 DOE
Location: Bristol / Hybrid (office, client sites & WFH)
A specialist engineering consultancy supporting safety-critical / high-hazard programmes is hiring a Fire Safety Assessor to help deliver and grow their fire engineering & assessment capability across submarines, power stations and explosives facilities.
The role
You'll lead delivery of fire strategies, fire risk assessments, and design-stage fire safety consultancy, working closely with internal teams, clients, and relevant authorities. This is well-suited to someone comfortable owning technical delivery and guiding others.
Role responsibilities:
- Produce and review fire safety strategies, reports, technical notes and sketches, ensuring alignment with relevant legislation and guidance
- Lead / contribute to design reviews, identify fire risk issues, and propose practical mitigation
- Carry out fire engineering analysis including smoke modelling, evacuation modelling, temperature/heat spread calculations, and related assessments
- Engage with clients, designers, and statutory bodies to embed fire safety measures into projects effectively
- Use computer-based modelling tools to support fire dynamics assessments and simulations
- Support service development and mentor junior engineers / associates as the function grows

The ideal candidate:
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Fire Safety Engineering / Fire Protection / closely related discipline
- Hands-on experience delivering fire risk assessments and/or fire strategies
- Background in regulated or safety-critical environments (e.g., infrastructure, defence, nuclear, energy, industrial)
- Strong stakeholder communication and report-writing skills

Desirable:
- Consultancy background
- Proficiency with fire modelling tools
- Knowledge of DSEAR and hazardous environments
- Experience across CNI settings (e.g., power, defence estates, explosives facilities)
Due to the nature of the work, the ideal candidate will be a sole UK nationals and able to meet UK National Security Vetting requirements (pre-employment screening included).
