Fire Safety Officer
We're currently partnered with an established Housing Association in Greater London, helping them recruit for a Fire Safety Officer. This person will support the effective management of fire safety across the organisation's housing stock, ensuring properties comply with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and internal policies.
The role will involve monitoring fire safety compliance, coordinating Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs), tracking remedial actions, supporting fire safety programmes and providing advice to colleagues, contractors and residents.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with experience in social housing, housing associations, local authorities or property management, with a good understanding of fire safety within residential buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor fire safety compliance across a portfolio of residential properties.
- Coordinate and monitor Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) and ensure assessments are completed within required timescales.
- Review FRA findings and monitor the completion of remedial and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of fire safety information, certificates, inspections and actions.
- Undertake inspections of communal areas and residential buildings to identify fire safety risks.
- Monitor fire safety measures including:
- Fire doors
- Emergency lighting
- Fire alarm systems
- Smoke and heat detection
- Dry/wet risers
- Compartmentation
- Fire signage
- Means of escape
- Fire extinguishers
- Liaise with contractors and consultants delivering fire safety inspections, surveys and remedial works.
- Support the delivery of fire safety improvement and remediation programmes.
- Monitor contractor performance, quality and compliance against agreed specifications.
- Assist with investigations into fire safety incidents, complaints and concerns.
- Provide fire safety advice and guidance to internal teams, residents and other stakeholders.
- Support the organisation in meeting its responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant housing and building safety legislation.
- Contribute to compliance reporting, audits and performance monitoring.
- Ensure fire safety records and asset information are maintained accurately on relevant housing/property management systems.
- Support the preparation of reports and compliance information for senior management and regulatory purposes.
- Work closely with Building Safety, Asset Management, Repairs, Development and Resident Services teams.
- Keep up to date with changes to fire safety legislation, guidance and best practice.

Person Specification
Essential Experience
- Experience working in fire safety within housing, property or the built environment.
- Experience of working within a housing association, local authority, ALMO or social housing environment.
- Good understanding of Fire Risk Assessments and fire safety compliance.
- Experience monitoring and managing FRA actions and remedial works.
- Understanding of fire safety systems and measures within residential buildings.
- Experience working with contractors, consultants and other stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple compliance requirements and deadlines.
- Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate compliance records.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working with high-rise or higher-risk residential buildings.
- Knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated regulations.
- Experience with fire door inspection programmes and compartmentation works.
- Experience supporting fire remediation or major fire safety improvement programmes.
- Experience using housing/property compliance systems such as Civica, MRI, Aareon or similar.
- Experience producing compliance reports and management information.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant fire safety qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate.
- Level 3/4 fire safety qualification.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as IFSM, IFE or IOSH.
- Relevant FRA qualification/training.

- Ability to challenge contractors and consultants where standards are not met.

Role Summary
This is an opportunity for a Fire Safety Officer to play a key role in maintaining fire safety across a social housing portfolio, ensuring risks are identified, actions are tracked and residents' homes and communal areas remain compliant and safe. The successful candidate will ideally bring hands-on housing fire safety experience, rather than purely commercial or facilities-based fire safety experience.
