About The Role And Our Ideal Candidate
As part of our recent pay award, the salary for this role is now £48,836–£54,583 per annum, plus LGPS pension and a £5,000 market supplement.
We are looking for a skilled professional to join our Asset Investment and Sustainability team as a Fire Safety Surveyor, reporting directly to the Fire and Building Safety Manager. Working together to deliver homes and communities where residents feel happy and secure, you will serve as a crucial technical gatekeeper for our fire safety data. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and auditing Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) to ensure alignment with SHP’s Fire Safety Management Plan, critically challenging inconsistent or non-proportionate findings, and supporting action validation within our compliance systems. You will lead on contract administration, formally agreeing on technical specifications and conducting robust post-inspection site visits to maintain the "Golden Thread" and verify that completed contractor works meet the high standards required by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). Additionally, you will lead initiatives for our 100% access strategy for statutory inspections, support the BSR Resident Engagement Strategy, and act as the operational liaison for the London Fire Brigade (LFB) during post-fire inspections and statutory Requests for Information (RFIs).
A dedicated and confident professional, you will take personal ownership of the physical accuracy of SHP assets, conducting monthly statutory audits of Secure Information Boxes (SIBs), wayfinding signage, and fire-fighting lifts to ensure high-rise buildings are "BSR-ready" at all times. You will have substantial experience in fire-related contract administration and the technical validation of contractor-led remedial programmes, combined with an in-depth understanding of the Building Safety Act 2022, the Fire Safety Act, and Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022. Your ability to interpret and critique technical drawings, fire-stopping specifications, and Regulation 38 handovers will be vital as you monitor contractor KPIs and hold them to account for workmanship, quality, and timeliness.

You must be passionate about excellent customer service, acting as a reliable "Subject Matter Expert" (SME) who provides residents, colleagues, and regulators with clear, authoritative safety information. Driven by our HOME values, you will be a high-performing team player with a "can-do" attitude, ready to take the initiative to solve complex access issues with persistence. It is essential that you possess a Degree in Building Surveying (or equivalent) OR a NEBOSH Fire Safety Management certificate. Desirable attributes include a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment, a Fire Door Inspection qualification (e.g., BRE or FDIS), and professional membership or accreditation with the IFE, IFSM, or TFRAR. A valid driving licence, access to your own car with business insurance, and a satisfactory enhanced DBS check are required for this role.

Formed in April 2006 as an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) we work in partnership with Sutton Council and its residents, managing over 6,000 council properties and over 1,500 leasehold properties in Sutton.
The housing stock is owned by the London Borough of Sutton, the day to day management, maintenance and asset investment is the responsibility of SHP.
