About The Role

This permanent, full-time position covers Stockton-on-Tees and the wider North East, working 8.00am to 4.30pm with a half-hour lunch break. The successful engineer will join the Fire & Security Projects team, handling installation, commissioning, testing, and fault finding across fire detection and electronic security systems, including fire alarms, CCTV, access control, and intruder alarms. Applicants should bring proven experience in installation and commissioning, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to complete projects to specification. The salary reaches £45,600 depending on experience, with 31 days of leave including statutory holidays.

Job Description

As a Fire & Security Engineer, you will be a key member of the Fire & Security Projects team, responsible for the installation, commissioning, testing, fault finding, and completion of fire detection and electronic security system projects.

The role will involve working across Fire Alarm Systems, CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Alarms, Disabled Refuge Systems, Public Address Systems, and associated network infrastructure, delivering high-quality engineering solutions for clients.

Reporting to the Fire & Security Project Manager, you will be responsible for completing installation and commissioning works safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, client requirements, relevant legislation, British Standards, and industry best practice.

You will be expected to demonstrate strong technical knowledge, work independently and as part of a team, and maintain high standards of workmanship across all installations, commissioning activities, and remedial works.

You must demonstrate knowledge of relevant British and European Standards, including BS 5839 (Fire Detection and Alarm Systems), BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), BS EN 50174 (Cabling Installation), and applicable NSI Codes of Practice.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Installation, Commissioning & Engineering Delivery

  • Install and commission Fire Alarm Systems, CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Alarm Systems, Disabled Refuge Systems, Public Address Systems, Induction Loops, and associated network cabling infrastructure.
  • Complete installation works in line with design specifications, drawings, technical documentation, manufacturers’ instructions, and project requirements.
  • Carry out testing and commissioning activities to ensure systems are fully operational, compliant, and ready for client handover.
  • Diagnose faults, identify technical issues, and complete corrective works efficiently.
  • Complete remedial works and system modifications as required.
  • Liaise with manufacturers, suppliers, Alarm Receiving Centres (ARC), clients, and other third parties where required.
  • Ensure all works are completed to a high standard, maintaining quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to colleagues where required.

Technical Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all installation and commissioning works are completed in accordance with relevant British Standards, including BS 5839, BS 7671, BS EN 50174, NSI Codes of Practice, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Complete accurate commissioning records, certification, handover documentation, timesheets, and company records.
  • Record all site activities, materials used, technical issues identified, and completed works using company systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, technologies, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and test equipment are maintained in good working condition and used correctly.

Customer & Site Responsibilities

  • Represent the company professionally at all times when attending client premises.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and other site personnel.
  • Provide clear explanations regarding system operation, completed works, and any outstanding requirements.
  • Deliver customer demonstrations and basic system training where required.
  • Ensure sites are left clean, safe, and secure following completion of works.

  • Follow all company health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Complete work in accordance with Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Systems of Work & Procedures.
  • Carry out dynamic risk assessments and report any hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses.
  • Use all required PPE and ensure safe working practices are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure company vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials are used responsibly and maintained appropriately.
  • Support a positive safety culture by actively promoting safe working practices.
  • Adhere to all responsibilities outlined in the Company Health, Safety & Environmental Policy Manual.

General

  • Complete all company documentation accurately and within required timescales.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and uphold ACEDA Ltd’s reputation when representing the company.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering team.
  • Attend training courses and maintain relevant industry qualifications and competencies.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably required to meet business needs.
