About The Role

A Fire & Security Service Engineer is required for a full-time, permanent position based in Newbury, covering Berkshire and the South of England. The role involves servicing, maintaining and fault-finding on fire detection, alarm and security systems across commercial, industrial and residential sites. Candidates should have proven experience with fire and security equipment, strong diagnostic skills and a full UK driving licence. A competitive salary is offered, dependent on experience. Benefits include a company vehicle, phone or tablet, uniform, pension, ongoing manufacturer training, plus overtime and an on-call allowance. The successful engineer will join a long-established contractor delivering installation, service and maintenance solutions.

About The Role

As a Fire & Security Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive call-outs, fault diagnosis, repair and commissioning support of fire and security systems across our customer portfolio.

You will work independently across multiple sites, ensuring all systems remain compliant, operational and maintained to the highest standards.

The role includes participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota to provide emergency breakdown support.

Key Duties

You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault finding and repairing:

  • Access Control Systems.
  • CCTV Systems (IP & Analogue).
  • Fire Alarm Systems (Addressable & Conventional).
  • Intruder Alarm Systems.
  • Emergency Lighting.
  • Emergency call-out response and reactive maintenance.
  • Planned preventative maintenance in accordance with contract schedules.
  • Diagnosing system faults and carrying out repairs efficiently.
  • Testing and verifying system operation following repairs.
  • Completing electronic service reports and certification.
  • Liaising professionally with customers and site representatives.
  • Advising customers of remedial works and system improvements where required.
  • Ensuring compliance with current British Standards and company procedures.
  • Maintaining company tools, equipment and vehicle.

Essential Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Fire & Security Service Engineer.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Relevant manufacturer training, i.e. Paxton, Texecom, Advanced, Hikvision, etc.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Professional, reliable and personable approach.

Knowledge Of Relevant British Standards, Including

  • BS 5839.
  • BS 7671 (where applicable to system supplies).
  • PD 6662 / BS EN 50131.
  • BS 8243.

Desirable

  • FIA training or equivalent.
  • SSAIB / NSI environment experience.
  • IPAF and PASMA qualifications.
  • ECS / CSCS card.
  • Asbestos Awareness.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • Networking knowledge for IP CCTV and access control systems.

On-Call Requirement

This role includes participation in a rotating 24/7 on-call service.

You Will

  • Respond to emergency customer call-outs.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults where possible.
  • Escalate issues where additional works are required.
  • Receive an on-call allowance together with applicable overtime payments.

Compliance & Screening

Due to the nature of our client portfolio, successful applicants will be required to undergo:

  • Enhanced DBS Check.
  • Employment screening and referencing.
  • Right to Work verification.
  • Relevant security screening where required for client sites.
