Fire Superintendent

FIRE SUPERINTENDENT-DSR NUMAN, ADAMAWA STATE

Job Summary

The role ensures the readiness of firefighting personnel, fire trucks, portable fire extinguishers, fire protection systems, and emergency equipment while driving compliance with fire safety standards and emergency response preparedness arrangements/requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Fire Safety & Prevention:

  • Develop and implement fire prevention and fire safety programs.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments and inspections across all operational areas.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, company standards, and emergency response requirements.
  • Monitor hot work activities and other high-risk operations.

Emergency Response & Incident Management:

  • Lead firefighting, rescue, evacuation, and emergency response activities.
  • Serve as Incident Commander during fire and emergency situations.
  • Investigate fire incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with external emergency services and regulatory authorities.

Fire Team Management:

  • Supervise Fire Officers, Firemen, and Fire Truck Operators.
  • Prepare duty rosters and manage team performance.
  • Conduct drills, simulations, and practical firefighting exercises.
  • Ensure personnel competency and operational readiness.

Fire Equipment & Infrastructure Management:

  • Ensure operational readiness of fire trucks and emergency response vehicles.
  • Oversee inspection, testing, maintenance, and certification of:
    • Fire extinguishers
    • Fire hydrants
    • Fire pumps
    • Hose reels
    • Fire alarms
    • Foam systems
    • Breathing apparatus and rescue equipment
  • Maintain adequate firefighting consumables and emergency response inventory.

Training & Emergency Preparedness:

  • Organize fire drills, evacuation drills, and rescue exercises.
  • Deliver fire safety training and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
  • Review and update emergency response plans.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement:

  • Prepare fire safety performance reports and KPIs.
  • Maintain records of incidents, inspections, training, and equipment maintenance.
  • Support audits, regulatory inspections, and insurance assessments.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Educational Qualification and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fire Engineering, Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Management, Emergency Management, or a related Engineering/Science discipline.
  • Firefighter I & II, NFPA Fire Officer/Fire Inspector, NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, Incident Command System (ICS), First Aid/CPR, and ISPON certification/membership will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in industrial firefighting, fire prevention, or emergency response. At least 3 years' experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
