Job details
The Fire Surveyor is responsible for carrying out fire safety inspections, surveys, assessments, and associated consultancy services across a range of residential, commercial, educational, healthcare, and public sector buildings. The role supports clients in understanding and managing fire safety risks, achieving regulatory compliance, and implementing appropriate remedial measures.
Working closely with building surveyors, project managers, architects, and other consultants, the Fire Surveyor will provide professional advice relating to fire safety legislation, building regulations, passive fire protection, and fire risk management.
- Undertake fire safety surveys and inspections of existing buildings, including intrusive and non-intrusive inspections of building fabric, compartmentation, fire stopping, fire doors, means of escape, and fire protection systems.
- Identify and assess fire safety risks and defects, providing clear recommendations and practical advice to clients on compliance and remedial requirements.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and schedules of works, prioritising risks and supporting clients in developing effective fire safety and remediation programmes.
- Provide expert regulatory and technical advice, working with legislation and guidance including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Building Safety Act 2022, Approved Document B, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, and relevant British Standards.
- Support construction, refurbishment, and remediation projects, reviewing contractor proposals, inspecting works on site, and verifying the quality and completion of fire safety installations and remedial works.
- Build strong client relationships and contribute to the wider team, presenting technical findings clearly, attending client meetings, maintaining high-quality records, and supporting the development of best practice and business opportunities.

Who You Are
- Have relevant qualifications and professional accreditation – Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in Building Surveying, Fire Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, alongside a recognised fire safety qualification. MRICS or working towards Chartered status is desirable.
- Have strong fire safety knowledge and experience – A good understanding of fire safety legislation, regulatory requirements, and passive fire protection systems, including compartmentation, fire stopping, and fire doors.
- Building surveying and inspection experience – Proven experience undertaking building inspections and surveys, with a strong understanding of construction methods, building defects, and fire protection systems.
- Technical and report writing skills – Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications, produce detailed technical reports, and communicate complex technical information clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Strong analytical and organisational skills – Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines effectively.
- Professional and client-focused approach – Confident working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality service. Experience of higher-risk buildings, FRAEW/external wall assessments, or remediation projects would be advantageous.
