Firestopping & Compartmentation Manager
Starting Salary: £38,000 – £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience
Location: Wolverhampton / Pendeford
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Annual Leave: 21 days + statutory bank holidays

AJM & Co UK Ltd is an established fire safety, passive fire protection, construction and maintenance business based in Wolverhampton. Our core areas include fire doors, firestopping, compartmentation, carpentry and general building works, with a growing focus on providing clients with complete passive fire protection and compliance solutions.
We are now looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Firestopping & Compartmentation Manager to join the business and play a key role in the next stage of our growth.
This is not simply a project management position. We are looking for someone who wants to take ownership of a department, develop client relationships, identify new opportunities and help turn our firestopping operation into a significantly larger part of the AJM business.
The Opportunity
Firestopping is an area we see as having significant potential for growth. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to build and develop the department, taking responsibility for projects from initial enquiry through to completion while also helping to generate new work and develop long-term client relationships.
You will have the autonomy to identify opportunities, improve processes, develop our offering and help shape the future direction of the department. We are looking for someone who doesn't simply wait to be told what to do.
Initiative, commercial awareness and a desire to grow with the business are key. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make their mark within a growing company and ultimately build something of their own within the wider AJM business.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of firestopping and compartmentation projects.
- Manage projects from initial enquiry and quotation through to completion and handover.
- Plan and coordinate labour, materials, programmes and subcontractors.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors, site teams and other stakeholders.
- Attend site where required to survey, inspect, manage and oversee works.
- Review specifications, drawings, surveys and project requirements.
- Produce quotations and assist with developing commercially viable proposals.
- Monitor project costs, performance, variations and profitability.
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with relevant specifications, standards and AJM procedures.
- Maintain strong levels of quality, documentation and client communication.
- Identify additional works and opportunities within existing projects and client relationships.
- Develop relationships with existing and prospective clients to generate further firestopping work.
- Proactively pursue new opportunities and help bring new projects into the business.
- Develop and improve AJM's firestopping and compartmentation offering.
- Help establish effective systems, processes and procedures as the department grows.
- Work closely with the Commercial and Operations Directors to develop the wider business.
- Contribute to the recruitment, development and management of the firestopping team as the department expands.
- Take ownership of the performance and future growth of the firestopping department.

What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with experience within firestopping, passive fire protection, compartmentation, construction or a closely related field. More importantly, we want someone with the drive and personality to develop a business area, rather than simply manage a workload.
You will ideally have:
- Strong technical knowledge of firestopping, compartmentation systems, and passive fire protection, including relevant UK building regulations and standards.
- Experience managing construction or fire safety projects on site, including supervision of teams, coordination with contractors, and monitoring quality and progress.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and survey reports, and translate them into clear instructions for site implementation.
- Proficiency in documenting inspections, compiling compliance reports, and maintaining accurate project records and photographic evidence.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with clients, consultants, site operatives, and senior management.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and a focus on safety and compliance.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in fire safety, construction management, or building services (e.g., FPA, IFSM, or equivalent) are highly beneficial.

The right person for this role could be someone who is already an experienced Firestopping Manager looking for a greater opportunity, or someone with a strong passive fire/construction background who is ready to take the next step.
