Firewall Engineer – Checkpoint – Inside IR35 – Hybrid – Reading Office
We are seeking an experienced Firewall Engineer to support a large-scale infrastructure transition programme within a complex enterprise environment. This is a hands-on role focused on managing, supporting, and enhancing a firewall estate spanning on-premise and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including firewall policies, rule sets, standards, and operational procedures.
- Provide hands-on support for the firewall estate, resolving incidents, fulfilling service requests, and implementing operational improvements.
- Deliver firewall-related project work and changes in line with security standards and change management processes.
- Manage, configure, and maintain physical, virtual, and cloud-based Check Point firewall platforms.
- Work closely with infrastructure, security, and project teams to support network and security initiatives.
- Support compliance, audit, and remediation activities across the firewall environment.
- Collaborate with third-party suppliers during transition activities and knowledge transfer.
- Identify and implement service improvements to enhance security, resilience, and operational efficiency.
- Plan and execute firewall upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of firewall and network security standards, processes, and tooling.

Mandatory Skills & Experience
- Proven experience working as a Firewall Engineer within a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Check Point firewalls, including policy design, implementation, and operational support.
- Experience supporting physical, virtual, and cloud-hosted firewall platforms.
- Proven track record delivering both BAU support and project-based firewall changes.
- Strong technical documentation skills, including capturing and documenting existing environments.
- Solid understanding of network security principles, firewall architectures, and secure network design.
- Experience working within transition, transformation, or change programmes.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
