World Wide Technology (WWT) is looking for an experienced Senior Firewall Engineer with deep Check Point expertise to support our client, a major global organisation based in the United Kingdom.
The successful candidate will be part of the Solutions Design & Delivery team, creating low-level designs, overseeing their implementation and transitioning solutions into operational support, in support of key transformation programmes.
This is a contract role & Inside IR35
Senior Firewall Engineer (Check Point)
- Contract Duration: 6 months (initial)
- Location: United Kingdom (Remote)
Key Responsibilities
- Work as part of the Solutions Design & Delivery team to ensure efficient delivery of projects as part of key transformational objectives and wider business-aligned demand.
- Work with key stakeholders and Project Managers to create low-level designs which adhere to defined architectural standards.
- Ensure designs are implemented in line with current architecture and that documentation is fit for purpose.
- Work with global support teams to transition solutions into operational support.

Required Qualifications
- Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing complex network solutions in a regulated industry or large enterprise environment.
- Demonstrable experience in designing, implementing, or supporting complex firewalled enterprise, DMZ, and segmented environments.
- In-depth technical understanding of Check Point firewall estates, including Quantum Security Gateways, ClusterXL HA and appliance lifecycle (upgrades, migrations, hotfixes, JHF). Maestro / VSX experience is desirable.
- Strong experience with Check Point SmartConsole and Security Management Server / Multi-Domain Management: policy package design, rulebase creation and optimisation, NAT, objects, layers and inline layers.
- Working knowledge of Check Point software blades: IPS, Application Control & URL Filtering, Threat Prevention (Anti-Bot, Anti-Virus, Threat Emulation / SandBlast), Identity Awareness, HTTPS Inspection, site-to-site and remote access VPN.
- Check Point operations: GAiA, clish / expert CLI, SmartEvent and SmartView logging and reporting. Management API scripting (Python / Ansible) for change automation is desirable.
- Experience migrating to, or co-existing with, other vendors (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA / FTD, Fortinet), using Check Point SmartMove or equivalent.
- Firewall change management, rule recertification and audit / compliance evidence in a regulated environment.
- Strong background in core networking across routing, switching and firewalls.
- Check Point certification (CCSA / CCSE, with CCSM desirable) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
