Job Title: Firewall & Network Security Engineer-Banking
Location: Hybrid Manchester (3 Days/week Onsite)
Duration: 6 months+
Rate: 550 GBP/day Inside IR35
About the Role
We are looking for experienced Firewall & Network Security Engineers to join a major banking client on a large-scale network security programme. The successful candidates will be responsible for managing and securing enterprise firewall environments across multiple technologies. You will work closely with network, infrastructure, security, and application teams to strengthen security controls, improve network segmentation, manage firewall policies, and support secure connectivity across the organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large, highly regulated banking environment and contribute to important network security and transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and administer enterprise firewall platforms across a multi-vendor environment.
- Work with Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA/Firepower and Check Point firewalls.
- Design, implement and maintain firewall security policies and rule sets.
- Perform firewall rule reviews, cleanup, optimisation and recertification.
- Manage and troubleshoot NAT configurations, Site-to-Site VPN and Remote Access VPN.
- Implement and maintain network segmentation and micro-segmentation controls.
- Identify security risks and support firewall risk reduction initiatives.
- Investigate and support network security incidents involving firewall technologies.
- Support and maintain network access controls and security enforcement mechanisms.
- Work with security, audit and compliance teams to ensure adherence to banking and organisational security standards.
- Provide technical support for IDS, IPS, DDoS protection and Secure Web Gateway (SWG) technologies.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with enterprise firewall technologies.
- Palo Alto Networks
- Fortinet
- Cisco ASA / Firepower
- Check Point
- Strong understanding of firewall architecture and policy administration.
- Experience with NAT and VPN technologies.
- Experience with network segmentation and micro-segmentation.
- Strong knowledge of firewall rule analysis, review and optimisation.
- Experience with IDS/IPS, DDoS and Secure Web Gateway solutions.
- Good understanding of Network Access Control (NAC).
- Strong troubleshooting and network security monitoring skills.
- Experience with security risk assessment and remediation.
- Strong understanding of security policies, governance and compliance.
- Experience supporting security incidents and investigations.

Desirable Experience
- Experience with AlgoSec or similar firewall policy management platforms.
- Knowledge of Zero Trust Network Architecture (ZTNA), SASE and SSE.
- Previous experience working within banking, financial services or other highly regulated environments.
- Understanding of security and regulatory frameworks such as PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, NIST and CIS Controls.
- Experience supporting network security transformation and cloud migration programmes.
- Knowledge of hybrid networking, SDN and modern secure connectivity solutions.
Professional Certifications – Desirable
- CISSP
- CCNP Security / CCIE Security
- Palo Alto PCNSE
- Check Point CCSA / CCSE
- Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500)
- AWS Security Specialty
- CCSP
- GIAC certifications such as GCIA, GCIH or GMON
