Engineer to Senior Engineer level
Location: Uddingston, Lanarkshire (on-site)
Type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: depending on experience, + benefits
Do you enjoy working across both hardware and firmware, and seeing your designs make it into real products? Micro Technology Consultants (MTC) is growing its electronics design team in Lanarkshire, and we want to hear from engineers at a range of experience levels, from those with a few years behind them to seasoned senior engineers.
We’ll match the role, title and salary to your skills and experience. If you’re not sure whether you meet every point below, reach out and let’s have a conversation.
About MTC
Since 1985, MTC has provided electronic, mechanical and software design and development services, taking products from initial concept through to pre-production prototypes and on into volume manufacture. Our engineering is trusted in demanding environments across the military, oil and gas, oceanology, road and airport safety and medical sectors, with products and systems deployed worldwide — from Norway and France to Singapore, Australia, the USA and South America.
Our own product range includes fibre-optic multiplexers and media converters, HD video products, ROV thruster control units and intelligent valve pack controllers, alongside reverse engineering and redesign work that keeps our clients’ products alive in the face of component obsolescence. We are an ISO 9001:2015 certified business.
The Role
You’ll be a hands-on member of a small team, working on the full life cycle of electronic products: circuit design and schematic capture, embedded firmware, prototype test and debug, certification and production. You’ll work closely with our lead engineer and learn MTC’s core product designs in depth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
