Kleboe Jardine are delighted to be partnering with Nami Surgical, an innovative Glasgow-based medical technology company developing advanced ultrasonic technology for robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

As Nami continues to develop its technology and engineering capability, they are looking to appoint an Embedded Firmware & Controls Engineer to take a key role in developing the embedded platform that drives, measures and controls their ultrasonic transducer technology.

This is a genuinely hands-on engineering position sitting at the intersection of embedded firmware, electronics, real-time data acquisition and control systems. It would suit someone who enjoys working close to the hardware and seeing their firmware interact with and control a real physical system.

The role

Initially, you’ll focus on developing and strengthening Nami’s embedded firmware platform, before progressing further into the characterisation and closed-loop control of the ultrasonic system.

Working closely with analogue and mixed-signal engineers, you’ll be involved in:

  • Developing embedded firmware in C/C++ for STM32/Cortex-M platforms
  • Building RTOS-based functionality alongside timing-critical, interrupt and DMA-driven firmware
  • Working at peripheral level with timers, ADCs, DACs, DMA, interrupts and communications
  • Implementing deterministic waveform generation and synchronised data acquisition
  • Developing USB, UART, Ethernet or similar communications interfaces
  • Implementing real-time phase, impedance and frequency measurements
  • Developing and tuning PI/PID and other closed-loop control algorithms
  • Supporting calibration, drift correction and system characterisation
  • Carrying out hands-on bench testing, measurement and debugging
  • Using Python for testing, data analysis and algorithm prototyping
  • Contributing to the longer-term architecture and development of Nami’s embedded control platform

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for an engineer with a strong grounding in embedded C/C++ and real-time embedded systems, who is comfortable working directly with electronics and physical hardware.

You’ll ideally bring experience across:

  • Embedded C/C++ and RTOS development
  • ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers such as STM32 or similar
  • Interrupt/DMA-driven and timing-critical firmware
  • Hardware peripherals and real-time data acquisition
  • Practical electronics debugging and bench measurement
  • Control systems, including PI/PID or similar closed-loop control
  • Working alongside analogue or mixed-signal electronics engineers
  • Python for test, analysis or engineering tools

Experience developing firmware and then taking that system through characterisation and control of the physical hardware would be particularly valuable. This could have been gained within areas such as motor or servo control, resonant actuators, transducers, impedance measurement, lock-in amplifiers, ultrasonic systems or other closed-loop electromechanical systems.

Why Nami Surgical?

This is an opportunity to join a growing Scottish MedTech company where your work will have a direct influence on the technology being developed.

Rather than working solely on one isolated layer of firmware, you'll have the opportunity to follow the system from embedded development through measurement, characterisation and ultimately closed-loop control, working closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team developing technology for the next generation of robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
