First Article Inspector

First Article Inspector – 6 Month Contract (Brockworth, Gloucester)

About the Role

We are seeking a First Article Inspector to join our team for a 6-month contract based in Brockworth, Gloucestershire.


Key Responsibilities

First Article Inspections (FAI)

  • Conduct dimensional and visual inspections of propeller assemblies and components using precision measurement tools.
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain AS9102-compliant FAI inspection reports, ensuring full traceability of materials and components.
  • Identify, document, and escalate non-conformances, collaborating with engineering and manufacturing to resolve issues.
  • Log daily hours and activities for weekly submission.
  • Track and monitor Root Cause & Corrective Action Requests (RCAR) related to FAI findings.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with quality, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to address quality concerns.
  • Provide updates on FAI progress and escalate issues to meet production timelines.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance FAI processes and ensure compliance with standards.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in FAIR (First Article Inspection) review and sign-off.
  • Knowledge of:
    • AS9102 standard (preferably with mechanical component experience).
    • AS9100 and ISO 9001 certification standards.
    • Inspection techniques, engineering drawing interpretation, and RCAR documentation.
  • Proficiency in precision measurement tools and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

Skills Required

Technical Proficiency

  • Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and inspection procedures.

Attention to Detail

  • Strong aptitude for spotting defects, process deviations, and non-conformances.
  • Meticulous record-keeping and documentation skills.

Problem-Solving & Analysis

  • Experience conducting root cause analysis (RCA) and implementing corrective actions.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Clear verbal and written communication in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to engage with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, supply chain) and external suppliers.

Certifications & Training

Preferred/Certifications

  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or equivalent industry certification.
  • AS9102 FAI documentation training is a significant advantage.

Work Environment

  • Industrial setting with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.
  • Collaborative daily interactions across multiple departments.
  • Requires adherence to ITAR security clearance and compliance with UK employment laws.

Additional Requirements

  • Full eligibility to work in the UK.
  • commit to flexible working hours, including overtime as needed.
  • Position is inside IR35 (self-employment structure).
