First Article Inspector
First Article Inspector (Contract, 6 Months) – Brockworth, Gloucester
Overview
We are recruiting for a First Article Inspector (FAI) for a 6-month contract based in Brockworth, Gloucester.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAI):
- Conduct dimensional and visual inspections of propeller assemblies and components using precision measurement tools.
- Verify compliance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
Responsibilities & Requirements
- Experience in FAI review/sign-off preferred.
- Working knowledge of: AS9102 Specification (mechanical priority), AS9100, ISO 9001.
- Key technical skills:
- Expertise in inspection techniques.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and diagnose defects.
- Experience drafting Root Cause and Corrective Action Requests (RCAR).
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed AS9102 FAI reports.
- Ensure traceability of materials and components.
- Identify & address non-conformances; collaborate with engineering/manufacturing.
- Log daily activities and submit weekly timesheets.
- Root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action contributor.
- Collaborate with quality teams, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chains to resolve issues.
- Track FAI progress, escalating when necessary to meet production deadlines.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify ways to enhance FAI processes.
- Highlight compliance gaps or performance concerns.

Skills Required
Technical Proficiency
- Profitely read and interpret engineering drawings & technical specifications.
- Experience with precision measurement tools (e.g., CMMs, microscopes).
- GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) awareness.
Attention to Detail
- Skilled at identifying defects and non-conformances.
- Excellent documentation and record-keeping.

Problem-Solving Skills
- Ability to resolve quality issues efficiently.
- Experience with RCA and corrective action processes.
Communication Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication in a team environment.
- Experience collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.
Certifications & Training
- Preferred: ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or equivalent.
- Training in AS9102 FAI documentation (desirable).
Work Environment & Additional Requirements
- Work involves exposure to manufacturing floors (noise, dust, machinery).
- Requires interaction with multiple departments.
- Must be:
- Eligible to work in the UK.
- Able to meet security clearance requirements (including ITAR).
- Flexible for overtime, overtime, and outside normal hours (inside IR35 scheme).
