Portsmouth Football Club is seeking a First Team Set Piece & Training Analyst to join our Analysis department.
Working closely with the Head Coach, Set-Piece Coach, wider coaching staff and players, you will deliver high-quality video and data analysis to support performance and inform decision-making, with a particular focus on training and Set Pieces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the analysis provision across training and set-piece workflows.
- Lead on opposition set-piece analysis workflows and work alongside the first team set-piece coach to devise strategies for upcoming games.
- Travel to all home and away fixtures, providing analysis during matches and delivering actionable insights in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
- Construct clear, evidence-based set-piece meetings that prepare the team for upcoming fixtures.
- Create bespoke and engaging content to prepare individual players for upcoming opponents and to feedback on recent performance.
- Utilise qualitative and quantitative methods to review set-piece performance on a game-by-game basis and regularly track set-piece trends across the league.
- Create targeted video reviews of training sessions to illustrate key tactical concepts and playing principles.
- Ensure effective video capture of training sessions and upload to the relevant destinations.
- Ensure best-practice databases are regularly updated.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the first team squad, as well as relevant opposition and loan players.
- Represent Portsmouth Football Club professionally at all times, modelling the club’s values and behaviours.

Personal Specification:
Essential:
- Experience in performance analysis within professional football, elite sport, or a comparable high-performance environment.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant discipline such as Sports Science, Performance Analysis or related fields.
- Strong understanding of current set-piece trends in both the EFL Championship & wider footballing world.
- Experience using performance analysis software and video coding platforms (Hudl Sportscode, Hudl Studio, Hudl StatsBomb, Hudl Insight or equivalent).
- Strong communication skills — both verbal and visual — with the ability to present analysis confidently to coaches and players.
- A creative and innovative approach to presenting information, with the ability to distil and highlight key messages effectively.
- High attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workload and deliver high-quality analysis within time-sensitive environments.
- A clear understanding of the day-to-day demands of a professional football environment.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for performance analysis, continuous learning and contributing to team performance.

Desirable:
- MSc in a sports-related discipline.
- UEFA Coaching Badge.
- Previous experience of supporting/ leading on set-piece workflows.
Additional Information:
- This is a full-time role based at Portsmouth FC’s training ground, with travel to all home and away fixtures required.
- Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
- An enhanced DBS check will be required prior to appointment.
