Purpose of the Role
This is a full-time split role combining First Team Sport Scientist and Head of Academy S&C, delivered within the Performance Department at Hull FC. The postholder will collaborate closely with the Head of Performance and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to collect, interpret and apply athlete data that shapes internal and external load management strategies at first-team level, while also leading the structure, delivery and monitoring of strength & conditioning provision across all academy programmes.
The role requires close alignment between academy and first-team practice, with academy S&C delivery reviewed directly by the Head of Performance to ensure a consistent, high-quality pathway from academy through to first team.
Role Structure Overview
First-Team Sport Scientist
- Data collection, analysis and load management for the first-team squad.
- Reporting and information delivery to the first-team MDT.
- Support for individual player needs analyses.
Head of Academy Strength and Conditioning
- Programme structure, delivery and monitoring across all youth/academy programmes.
- Alignment of academy S&C with first-team Hull FC principles.
- Direct review of delivery under the guidance of the Head of Performance.

Key Responsibilities - First-Team Sport Scientist
Data Collection & Load Management
- Collaborate with the Head of Performance and MDT on the collection, monitoring and analysis of athlete data to inform internal and external load management strategies.
- Ensure all data collection is directed by, and conducted in conjunction with, the Head of Performance and wider MDT.
- Apply data insight to deliver genuine, measurable impact to the performance programme.
Reporting & Communication
- Generate reports that are visually attractive and accessible, bringing athlete information to life for all members of the MDT.
- Demonstrate effective, proactive communication across the MDT, ensuring athlete data and insights are shared clearly and in a timely manner.
Individual Player Support
- Contribute to the identification and delivery of individual player requirements arising from needs analyses.
- Work closely with coaching, medical and performance staff to tailor support around specific player needs.
Movement & Injury Risk Mitigation
- Demonstrate expertise in the design and delivery of movement programmes to mitigate injury risk and maximise performance.
- Apply evidence-based practice to support athlete readiness, robustness and long-term physical development.
Key Responsibilities - Head of Academy Strength and Conditioning
Programme Structure & Delivery
- Design and structure strength & conditioning programmes across all age groups within the academy pathway.
- Lead the hands-on delivery of academy S&C provision, ensuring quality and consistency across all youth programmes.
Monitoring & Alignment
- Monitor and evaluate academy programme delivery, tracking athlete progression across the pathway.
- Ensure academy S&C provision is closely aligned with first-team Hull FC principles and philosophy.
- Operate under the direct guidance and review of the Head of Performance, ensuring a joined-up approach from academy through to first team.

Shared Responsibilities
- Work closely as an integrated member of the MDT, demonstrating effective communication and collaboration between all members, across both first-team and academy settings.
- Support staff development through active involvement in the department's internal mentorship programme.
- Deliver all responsibilities with energy and enthusiasm, upholding a check-and-challenge mindset to maintain exemplary professional standards.
Continued Professional & Personal Development
- Maintain a proactive commitment to continued professional and personal development throughout the role.
- Endeavour to remain up to date with technological and evidence/research advancements within the field of sport science, applying new learning to enhance practice.
- Engage with relevant courses, conferences, professional networks and literature to ensure department practices remain innovative and aligned with best practice in elite sport.
Person Specifications
Essential
- Degree in Sport Science or an equivalent related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years' postgraduate experience working in elite sport.
- Experience leading, coordinating or overseeing a strength & conditioning programme, ideally within a pathway or academy environment.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification(s) in a field related to the role (e.g. Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science, Sports Medicine, or a related applied discipline).
Terms of Appointments
- Salary dependent on experience.
- Full-time split role, combining First Team Sport Scientist and Head of Academy S&C.
- Based within the Performance Department at Hull FC, reporting to the Head of Performance.
