This role provides an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking department driven to deliver the highest level of Athlete-centred, integrated practice.

The Role

You will report to the Head of Medical Services.

  • To provide appropriate soft tissue interventions to professional players to optimise their performance, preparation, and injury prevention at training sessions, match days, and international trips. Evidenced by appropriate keeping of medical records.
  • Incorporate physiological and pathological processes to prepare players for training and competitions.
  • Treat players with a range of techniques within the scope of practice and, if appropriate, refer players on to other members of the team. Evidenced by relevant CPD throughout the season.
  • Provide organisational support to ensure the smooth running of the department and its needs. Evidenced by stock taking and maintenance of medical equipment across all sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide soft tissue techniques in the prevention and treatment of sports injuries to the professional players at THFC around training, matches, and international travel as required.
  • Provide injury prevention advice and support in line with departmental philosophies.
  • Be able to work independently to treat and manage players using strapping, tape, and massage techniques when necessary.
  • Work alongside the Physiotherapy team to treat injuries to alleviate pain and regain function.
  • Work alongside the Physiotherapy team to optimise performance and assist in recovery using a range of manual therapy techniques.
  • Appropriately hand over relevant information to other members of the multi-disciplinary team when additional treatments or onward referral may be required.
  • Assist in the management of stock and ordering of medical consumables for the Training Centre, Lodge, and Stadium.
  • Assist in packing and transportation of medical equipment required for travel.
  • Help maintain the treatment room and its equipment at the Training Centre.
  • Develop new treatment adjunct skills as appropriate.
  • Support the team on a match day as required by the Head of Medical Services, which may involve national and/or international travel.
  • Assist in emergency pitch side cover at the training centre during training sessions when required.
  • Attend daily medical meetings to keep updated with specific maintenance issues or treatment requirements for players within the First Team squad.
  • Be proactive in reporting any potential injury/fitness issues to the Head of Medical Services on a daily basis.
  • Ensure accurate medical note-keeping is upheld.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • Act in accordance with the organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
  • Be alert to signs of abuse, neglect, or safeguarding concerns and report these appropriately.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model when working with or around children.
  • Attend safeguarding training as required and keep knowledge up to date.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant Qualification in Massage or Sports Therapy.
  • FA accredited emergency aid qualification or ability to acquire.
  • Demonstrable manual therapy skills.
  • Good time management.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning.
  • Experience of providing manual therapy in an elite sporting environment.
