DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS
Run over two days on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th May 2027, our First Year Scheme offers a broad insight into how a big, global law firm like Baker McKenzie operates, with structured sessions to introduce you to our various departments and the work we do.
We'll help you develop your commercial awareness and understanding of what being a Trainee Solicitor involves. Then, through a series of group tasks and interactive workshops, start to build the core skills you need to succeed in the role.
You'll be allocated a Trainee buddy, who'll be there to offer you advice and support. There'll be plenty of networking opportunities too. You'll also benefit from one-to-one sessions with our Graduate Recruitment & Development team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
