FIT Payments Specialist

The FIT Payments Specialist is responsible for the accurate, timely and compliant delivery of Feed-in Tariff and related payment activity across domestic, SME and business customer portfolios. The role ensures payment processes are well controlled, customer records are maintained to a high standard, and regulatory, audit and internal governance requirements are met. Working closely with customers, internal teams and third parties, the role helps protect customer trust, maintain operational resilience and support continuous improvement across FIT operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payment processing and administration: Process, monitor and track quarterly FIT payments across business, domestic and SME accounts, including FIT export-related payment activity such as Smart Export, Deemed Export and Fixed Export Rate (Standard Tariff).
  • Customer correspondence: Create, maintain and issue customer correspondence, remittances, self-billed invoices and VAT-related payment documentation accurately and in line with agreed processes.
  • Data management and payment controls: Maintain accurate customer, payment and bank detail records; coordinate large-scale customer data activity; and support effective controls for reversals, overpayments, underpayments, out-of-process payments and goodwill gestures where required.
  • Compliance, audit and regulatory reporting: Support compliance with Ofgem regulations, BACS requirements and internal governance standards, including contribution to the Annual FIT Levelisation Audit, internal and external FIT audits, and Central FIT Register submissions.
  • Levelisation activity: Collate, validate and submit figures relating to total electricity supplied and total FIT payments made to generators via the Central FIT Register, ensuring appropriate senior leadership sign-off is obtained in line with the Levelisation process.
  • Customer service and account ownership: Act as a key point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders, providing clear communication and proactive support to resolve queries and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Stakeholder collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, external bodies and industry third parties on payment, compliance, fraud, regulatory and customer account matters, ensuring issues are progressed effectively and risks are escalated appropriately.
  • Reporting and continuous improvement: Use data-led insight, reporting and operational analysis to manage workload efficiently, support team KPIs, identify process improvements and contribute to system and service development.
  • Inbox and query management: Manage and maintain internal inbox activity within agreed KPIs, supporting wider teams with queries, guidance and issue resolution where required.

What you'll need to succeed

As a Payments Specialist, you’ll be an excellent communicator with great attention to detail and eye for accuracy. You’ll take direct ownership of processes and queries with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You’ll also, be motivated, organised and determined, and enjoy working to deadlines and targets.

Essential

  • You have an interest in clean technology, along with a passion to support our purpose.
  • You are passionate about customer service and building long-lasting relationships
  • You are organised with good time management and prioritisation skills
  • You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • You are analytical and inquisitive with a natural desire and ability to solve complex problems
  • An interest in technology and finding tools and solutions to do things better and quicker
  • You are a quick learner who enjoys sharing their knowledge
  • You can work independently as well as within a team
  • You have an Advanced Level experience with Microsoft Excel
  • You are confident working with numbers and applying mathematical accuracy to payment calculations, reconciliations and data validation
  • You are naturally analytical and comfortable working with data

Desirable

  • You have knowledge or experience of renewables, energy and microgeneration
  • You have worked with both B2B & B2C customers previously
  • You have experience in managing customer relationships and setting clear expectations
  • You have experience using SQL, Power Query or Power BI

Hybrid working explained: When and where you’ll be in the office

Our office is based in Chippenham, Wiltshire. For this role, we're looking for candidates who can come in to our Chippenham office once a month.

We offer both formal and informal flexible working options. Full-time hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday.
