Job Opportunity at Wellesley Hospital
Do you take pride in helping people with their fitness? If you want to make a positive influence on the health of some of the most vulnerable in society, then this job is for you.
Join the team at Wellesley Hospital as a Fitness Instructor, where you will work 37.5 hours between Monday to Friday and be a part of meaningful change. You will join the Occupational Therapy team, where you will facilitate all fitness-based activities within the Occupational Therapy timetable. You'll enjoy support from the OT team, which consists of Registered Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants.
As a part of the programme, you'll explore and promote different elements of a healthy lifestyle, covering key topics each week such as the importance of exercise, food groups, and lifestyle choices. You'll provide individual and group sessions within different locations, including a fully equipped gym and sports halls.

As a Fitness Instructor You Will Be
- Competently preparing, designing, delivering, managing, and evaluating personal training programmes, group fitness, and hospital-wide exercise sessions.
- Completing PARQ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) assessments and risk assessments.
- Demonstrating a clear understanding and being able to educate others on the anatomy and physiology and its relation to exercise and health.
- Educating service users on nutrition and physical activity and health.
- Carrying out audits and service maintenance on the gym and fitness equipment.
- Working collaboratively with members of the OT department and other disciplines.

To Be Successful In This Role, You'll Need
- Previous fitness instruction experience.
- Knowledge of mental health.
- Completion of Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification as a minimum.
- Previous experience in designing and delivering personal training programmes.
- Some knowledge of nutrition/healthy eating.
- Experience of working in a mental health setting is not essential.
- Knowledge of mental health conditions and how they can impact motivation is crucial.
Where You Will Be Working
Location: Westpark 26, Chelston, Wellington, Somerset, TA21 9FF
You will be working at Wellesley Hospital, a purpose-built 101-bed hospital in Wellington (Somerset) for men and women with Mental Health needs.
- There are 6 wards for people with Mental Health needs and 1 ward for people with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
- The Wellesley Hospital built in 2017 works alongside Devon Partnership NHS Trust, Avon and Wiltshire Foundation Trust, Cornwall Foundation Trust, 2gether Foundation Trust, and Livewell to deliver the best possible environment for patients with Mental Health issues.
