Your Role

As a Fitness Manager you’ll be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the facility and ensuring the effective delivery of a first-class customer experience to all those who visit. You will also be responsible for ensuring the smooth running and operation of our fitness facilities.

Your Team

You’ll be working within the Operations team and report to the General Manager.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership and management of the Operations Teams, keeping your team engaged, motivated and informed and operating in line with our values.
  • Ensure a first-class customer experience is delivered to all visitors; effectively handling customer queries, feedback and complaints.
  • Be proactive in ensuring the safety and cleanliness and set up of the facilities and equipment; identifying and responding to situations as they arise and escalating issues as required.
  • Carry out the induction and training of new starters and the development of existing team members.
  • Conduct a programme of performance management including managing 1-2-1’s, absence, conduct, performance and continuous development.
  • With direction from the General Manager and Group Sales Manager, implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Carry out welcome visits with new customers.
  • Deliver group exercise classes.
  • Ensure the gym and fitness equipment is kept clean and in a safe condition.
  • To be conversant with all aspects of opening and closing the centre following opening / closing procedures as attached.
  • To act as the manager on Duty until another manager is in the building if opening the centre – this means decision making and referring queries effectively to the person that is most suited to deal with any given situation but ONLY if it cannot be dealt with by you.
  • To conduct prospective member tours of the facility and to be conversant with the joining procedures alongside expectations of the sales process for Horizon Leisure Centres (training required).
  • To carry out pool and plunge pool testing as per the GLC schedule and report any anomalies immediately. (PPO course to be taken).

Your Experience/Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience as a manager or team leader, preferably in a leisure environment.
  • Emergency Response Training - desirable
  • First Aid at Work - desirable
  • Pool Plant Operator - desirable
  • Gym Instructor Qualification; Level 2 – essential
  • Personal Trainer L 3 – desirable

This role will be based at Guildford but will be expected to travel to other company sites as the need requires.
